Is there really a point in developing these huge ass gloves?

The beta hand tracking in Quest1 already worked surprisingly well, in 2 or 3 gens it's probably good enough to be the standard input method.

Not really I think what is developed mostly for industry will evolve overtime long time.

The realization is mixed reality is the future over phones and phones have run their course there is really not much they could add without creating privacy issues and most will not translate to a lot of sales. Mix Reality is the future in what form who knows but it is largely felt for mobile phone providers the only way forward. So Samsung realizing this as well as Google are working together much like the rumor deal Steam has with Apple.

"
While the world waits for Apple to finally tear off the band-aid and let us know what mixed, virtual, or augmented reality device it's been working on all of these years, Samsung took the opportunity during its 2023 Galaxy Unpacked event to tease something very slightly more concrete.

At the very end of the event, the device maker brought executives onstage from Qualcomm and Google. The trio then announced... something.

Apparently none of the companies were ready to share details just yet about their collaboration -- only that they are indeed collaborating.

They clearly wanted to make it known that they're a strongly aligned triumvirate, all heavily invested in both Android and integrating XR content and hardware into their apps and devices.

Of course, none of the three are exactly novices when it comes to VR/AR hardware and software. Qualcomm could be considered the most recent entrant into the arena, and it's already got accomplishments under its belt like designing the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 Platform for the Meta Quest Pro.

Also: Should you pre-order HTC's VIVE XR Elite headset?

Meanwhile, Google is probably best known in the space for designing the Google Cardboard, a literal piece of cardboard that, when folded into the shape of a headset and combined with a smartphone, could be used to create shockingly compelling VR experiences. That product, if you can even call it that, debuted all the way back in 2014 and is long since defunct, as is its follow-up, the far more technically capable Google Daydream headset. Despite stepping away from smartphone-based VR, the search giant continued to heavily integrate AR functionality into apps like Google Maps, Google Lens, and its ARCore platform."

Not sure would be my answer waiting for Valve newest headset offering.

Now that CES 2023 has wrapped and we've digested the massive news that came out of the event, it's time to start figuring out which of the new devices at the show deserve our hard-earned cash. For VR and AR lovers, the top consideration is likely HTC's VIVE XR Elite.

Also: CES 2023 was huge for AR and VR. Here's everything important that was announced

The company made its bid to once again dominate consumer VR by coming in $400 below the cost of the Meta Quest Pro. HTC also made it clear that, unlike its aforementioned competitor, it is very much designed for you and all consumers interested in premium XR experiences.

But, at $1,100, it's no small purchase for the vast majority of us. That's why we're here to help you decide if you should preorder the new headset, opt for a competing model, or just wait and see what's coming later this year. "

VR needs another Half Life: Alyx style game. I'm not interested in spending more until there's some other keystone release.

When ts the size of large regular galsses and maybe 500 a pop itll take off, till then.

My biggest worry is the fact that both Meta Quest Pro and XR elite both have one glaring issue both are like lesser headsets in some ways to their previous versions. The HTC Vive Pro 2 that I own has 2.5K per eye resolution vs 1.9K per eye in the XR Elite, in the case of the Meta Quest 2 Pro has resolution that basically matches the what 3 or 4 year old Quest 2 and pass through optics resolution that is basically the same as the resolution of the 4 positional cameras on said 3 year old Quest 2. The XR Elite pass through optics are miles better then the Meta Quest 2 Pro and has a depth of field sensor lacking on the Meta Quest 2 Pro but is not being used currently. That also limits the image of the camara to 2D going to each eye vs Quest 2 Pro using the 4 cameras and combining them with the single color camara to create the color image in 3D but really lacking image quality. Facebook now realizes this fact so they just dropped the price till the end of the week of the Meta Quest Pro 2 to 1099 to match the HTC XR elite. Valve rumor has been working with Apple on

These are kinda of the specs I want to see in a next generation headset. At least 2.1k per eye and stand alone the Varjo Aero hits most of the marks without pass through "big miss" but has all the other key technologies. Aero has aspheric lenses as well as the Crystal but both lack through the lens Apple bought the company with the patent for aspheric lenses and I hear Valve could very well be using the same technology.

Varjo Aero not cheap almost 2K.

I preordered PSV2 just for GT7. Probably won't even use it for other (non-racing) games.

It really looks like the must have accessory for GT7 period and if you have the coin add the fanatic GT7 direct drive wheel. VR has been best used with racing and flying games. Of course beat saber but lets be real beat saber was popular for people who never experienced VR, now driving games it really comes to its own and eye tracking is huge for quality rendering.

I don't own a current generation game console but GT7 reviews are winning me over. Sony was very smart to get ahead an get tons of people early access to the game an headset. I am very impressed. I may go an buy a PS5 still on the fence.

PS5 even without the VR is an awesome console, FFXVI and Spiderman 2 alone would make it worth the purchase this year. I have my PSVR2 preordered as well and I'm so excited for it.

GT7 looks awesome but there's so many more games that look great coming out at launch or near launch.

I already have GT7 and RE Village. Also preordered Moss I and II, Switchback VR, Kayak Mirage, and Horzion: Call of the Mountain. Really looking forward to Firewall Ultra, heard great things about the first one.

First impressions of the Primax Crystal not very promising the specs are amazing but so many features are not ready. Primax history of massively over promising an not delivering.

The claims on Playstation PSVR 2 are getting ridiculous lol.

They said back in early January that they were going to ship the first 200 units in Jan 23 but so far they only delivered 18 to beta testers in China. I don't even know if we would see the headsets in March and they had a 30 dollar reserve fee back in November. They should set a full reserve fee refund for those that want to pull out if they don't meet a certain time period. The 12k headset is a pipe dream that they said would have been released in mid 2022 but I doubt it would even see the light till mid 24
