Tech VR Megathread

They said back in early January that they were going to ship the first 200 units in Jan 23 but so far they only delivered 18 to beta testers in China. I don't even know if we would see the headsets in March and they had a 30 dollar reserve fee back in November. They should set a full reserve fee refund for those that want to pull out if they don't meet a certain time period. The 12k headset is a pipe dream that they said would have been released in mid 2022 but I doubt it would even see the light till mid 24

It looks like they are going to ship it end of Feb. early March but without features. They got the Oculus like controllers running at least.

The resolution aint bad either at 2560X2560 per eye. I could see it going well with people who just like using it as a social app while lying in bed since the weight and size isnt so much an emcumbrance to them, Still the audience is very limited since it does not come with controllers so you would need valve index knuckles with base stations to set it up.

Bigscreen would be pushing this product on their app for the comfort although its very unusual they are getting into the hardware business

FOV is limiting factor for me I promised myself at least 120 degree FOV and 95 degree really feels 2019 not 2023 there is a major race in the Micro OLED space and 2560X2560 of course Crystal even higher but is it OLED? is about the highest reasonably priced OLED's in the consumer space I am kinda bummed nether HTC or Meta decided to go into that range. I am still mostly about Valve offering now.

I am disappointed by this news over PSVR it has older generation Fresnel lens that for me a deal breaker.

Played around a little today. My first experience with VR so I was pretty blown away by the entire experience.

Only game I played so far was GT7. Took me a minute to get used to the perspective, but once I did the gameplay was so much better. The VR perspective gives you a more accurate idea of where you car is on the track, and makes hitting breaking points and apex's so much easier. For people who take sim racing serious, it seems like VR is going to be required to compete at the top.

The one down side is that the VR perspective made me more aware of just how bad my sim racing setup is. With the sound and visuals amplified, it was the feel of the wheel and pedals that ruined the immersion. I'm currently using an GT Omega Wheel Stand and Logitech G923 setup because I don't have room for a full racing rig. Really wish I had a direct drive wheel, load cell pedals, and a legit aluminum rig.

I have heard the field of view is very good for the gaming over 110 degrees.

Thinking about getting the PSVR2 but not sure if I want to pay that much for just GT and Horizon. I believe the RE4 Remake will have vr support, so I may wait on it to see how it turns out.

The RE4 remake is already out in VR on the Quest 2.
