So, this isn't about oil? It's about geopolitical influence and control? You started out saying "well at least he's being honest about wanting to invade for their oil" and now you're switching gears to "he's helping Guyana and their oil supply" and "it's to keep China out of South America".
We don't know what is going to happen now. What's USA's plan moving forward? The regime isn't just Maduro, it's their military heavily implanted in running all sectors of their government and economy. Getting rid of Maduro isn't going to change any of that.
I doubt Trump will have the stomach to send his troops and engage in years worth of sending in troops to get real regime change. And if he doesn't do that, China can very easily continue doing business with Venezuela.
Or this might be a signal to China and Russia that the US will be overinvested in South America and therefore greenlights their expansive desires. China can move into Taiwan and Russia can go more aggressively into Ukraine. Africa can shake up too.
This stuff has real world consequences. Trump is in way over his head. A quick military victory like this is insignificant in and of itself, but the medium and long term consequences can be massive.
"Its to keep China out of Sputh America" -
@Hog-train
LOL. Now all of a sudden we are back to soft power and global US influence? Trump had no problem letting USAID food and antibiotics destined for Africa to rot, gifting China a foothold on the continent. Trump also pissed off most of our allies and trade partners - driving them right in to the arms of China.
But totally, Trump is doing this for geopolitical reasons, because he and his administration of Fox News hosts are such competent geniuses.
And lol at "it's not about oil, we are already self sufficient". That has to be the absolute stupidest statement I've ever read. As if capitalism plateaus and all those oil corporations have decided "we have enough product for sale, no use getting more at a significantly reduced cost, when those costs are shouldered by the taxpayers".
It's not ENTIRELY about oil, no, other perks of the job are granting forced loans to Venezuela to pay for the engineering and infrastructure firms we dictate, which of course are repaid with interest, they will be forced to give us their UN vote, and we also get a military base there. It's the same playbook every time - economic extortion.
The sad part is, since loans will need to be serviced by the government, it's usually taken from social programs, which means as usual, the common people will suffer.
It's like me coming over to your house, burning it down, then offering to loan you the money to rebuild it using my construction company - which you will pay me back with interest of course. I will also demand that you use my branded appliances in your home, and, one bedroom must be reserved for me. Who gives a shit if your family starves because of all the loans you are now required to pay me back.
