And you think he was thinking after round 5 yeah I beat max up this round AFTER he didn't get close to Max's volume? And was a speed bag for 10s holding on he's thinking Yes I won 3-2 that's my round. You're being ridiculous.

His corners perception was that Poirier was landing the bigger shots, so even if Holloway had more volume, the rounds were still close. His corner felt that if he closed the gap in volume, that would be enough to win the round.

I'm not saying his corner was right.. I'm saying that this is what they were telling him. You can pull up the replay and hear them saying this to him between rounds.

You can see him shoot a glance at his corner when they say the first 49-46, and he shows geniuine disappointment at the end with the "AND STILL". He realized that his corner gave him bad info. If they had told him "You're down 4-0", he would have fought differently, but between Round 4 and 5 they told him he won Round 4, and made it seem like all he needed to get the decision was win round 5, and that could be accomplished by upping his volume a bit.

It was obviously shit advice. I had Max winning 50-45. I'm just telling you what Dustin thought, based on what his corner was telling him.

But you can't say what aspects of Max's performance has degraded since he's supposedly out of his prime, or when he fell out of his prime.

Clearly he's not in his physical prime. You can see it in his reflexes and how he takes punches. You can also see it in his face. But, to compensate for this, he's leveled up his approach and diversified, showing his ever improving kick boxing. But hey, most guys who took their first fight at 17 and are 16 years deep are in their prime, right? Lol

Most MMA fans do not understand how age, mileage, or a fighter's prime in general works

If people agree a fighter is out of their prime, the fighter is probably three plus years out of their prime

People here can't agree on anything outside of hating on people at their lowest point. Fight fans are shit.

Max has adjusted his style and is kind of a different fighter than he was 5 years ago. He's a Top 3 LW right now. Only person beating him at LW right now is Ilia.

No, I can't.
Or rather, not to the point it'd make a difference in a fight.

After Dustin's KO loss against Gaethje two years ago he came back last year against... That Spaniard 'God of War' .... And it was clear his skills had diminished and he was no longer in his prime.
He won that match by a lucky KO, and power is the last thing to go.

Hated that the UFC matchmakers gave him a title shot against Islam. It went exactly as I predicted. Dustin at no point would have Islam in danger of being finished and Islam would finish him in the 4th or 5th.

And now an entire year later it's quite clear this was a sendoff that so many UFC legends earned but so few received.... Their final fight being in their hometown with friends and family watching.

I'm thankful Dustin knew when to quit before going on a long and embarrassing losing streak.

It's weird, though, and it reinforces the point that Ilia needs to forget about Islam and focus on defeating Arman or Paddy. Max KO'd Justin, who KO'd DP, who had a crazy battle against Islam until he was submitted in the fourth round. Also, Max is coming off his first KO loss ever, which obviously did not mean anything in terms of influencing how he would perform tonight in a higher weight class—a factor many suspected was the reason he looked "past his prime" at 145. I'm just saying. Look, if Ilia fights at 155 and keeps performing the way he does, I'll give him massive props. BUT this whole PR keyboard clan of Ilia promoters declaring him the winner of MMA for life is a complete circus at this point. Moving up to 155 and fighting Oliveira is not going to age well unless he faces more high-level athletes at 155. I'm not saying Max beats Ilia at 155; I'm just saying I'm not sure Ilia beats Max, Arman, Paddy, Hooker, Gamrot, Rafael, or Islam at 155, and defending is the only way to really know.

I was just making a little point to the discussion of him being in his prime. He's probably not but he's done well to adjust how he fights and he's still having success. It's difficult to assess. His two recent LW fights he's looked amazing. I don't see anyone beating him except Ilia which includes Arman and Paddy. He could still beat Topuria.

150 isn’t crazy wish they could take the UFC brand off it tbh
dude 150 for the most flimsiest polyester made with the most poisonous blends, barely applied graphics??

i think i have to do it now. it's now or never.

I know it was not really directed at you. I must say Max is very good at 155 and it will be interesting to see how the division changes in the next year with Ilia and Max dedicated to the weight class. The dumbest thing the UFC could do right now is let Ilia jump to another division for an immediate title fight as LW is about to get really interesting.

Now that Dustin lost his farewell fight, I wouldn't be surprised to see him begg Dana for another shot hoping to end on a victory !
He could also push his luck and sign with BKF vs macChicken
