I'd bet the same people defending Trump wanting Biden investigated are the same people that were complaining that Obama had Trump investigated and that was McCarthyism.

Just to be clear as it is an important distinction. Obama DID NOT have Trump investigated. An investigation was started in the way it is supposed to be, at a grass roots level based on evidence that is forwarded. That evidence, at a certain point, once determined credible enough to seriously follow up on or not, is then raised up the flag poll, if politically sensitive to Obama or whoever need be informed, to ensure those at the top understand and agree with the need to investigate and sign off, due to potential political fall out.

This is exactly how the US system is supposed to operate and needs to operate with all the ability to audit it for transparency and accountability.

Trumps way of simply declaring wrong doing before any evidence is at hand, and sending his personal lawyer to do what defense lawyers do which is shape a story to support their clients position, is the exact wrong way, and illegal to do.

Say a president strongly thinks an opponent went to another county to fuck kids or was involved in a murder. Can he ask the leader of a foreign nation to look into it?

Is the answer the president should have the doj or cia look into it and then contact the other country? The president asking directly is a violation?

Trump is definitely the type of guy to put his interests before the country's. he complains about China because he can't gain the upper hand against them. let's say China did take up on his suggestion & dig up dirt on Biden. if they were to be successful, Trump would definitely reward them somehow, & use this opportunity to make amends at the country's expense.

2 texts from a Ukrainian diplomat cited QPQ. Then 2 responses from a person who had previously donated 1 million dollars to Trump immediately asks for the in-writing convo to cease because it’s damning evidence to the politician whose pockets Sondland just lined.

“Are we now saying that security assistance and WH meeting are conditioned on investigations?” Taylor wrote on September “Call me,” Sondland answered.

Eight days later, Taylor wrote: “As I said on the phone, I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.” Sondland responded by denying that this was the case — and urging him not to text about the matter anymore.

Hmmmm... wondered what they talked about on the phone. Seems clearly it was the topic of withholding security assistance.

I am 100% giving you that in this scenario. Now that you have that. The President still cannot imply or insinuate a foreign country should look into a political opponent. He certainly cannot do as he did in the Ukrainian phonecall and then try to hide it in code-word status when nothing in the call fit the level of code.

He could have talked about this 2 years ago and we could all probably look at it as a personal squabble. But we've come too close to the election and he's talking about the guy who has been among the leaders in the opposing party. That's not legal. That's against the tenants of this country. That's nearing authoritarianism.

FFS, not only do you have to be able to read Trumps mind, you have to assume that China even wants him to succeed - China knows that as soon as Trump is out of office all of these trade wars go away.

There is just no sensible reason for Trump to expect a favor from China or for China to offer one without this fantasy CT that the left made out of an off hand coment to a bunch of reporters that was actually aimed at putting doubt in American voters minds.
