Trump rolls back Michelle Obama lunch program on her birthday...

I was skinny in high school. I didn't need a calorie limit. Why force a calorie limit on me because of other kids? That's so wrong.

If the goal is to restrict calories to make fat kids less fat, just restrict calories for the fat kids only. That's what they want to do. They're just too pussy to actually do it; that would sound totalitarian. They're just trying to not be in your face about it. Which is how it feels forcing a certain diet onto me with a one size fits all approach.

And if a kid and his parents really want to be fat? That's none of the government's or your damn business. We're (supposed to be) a free country.

It's none of our damn business until we have to pay more for healthcare and insurance to subsidize their disgusting lifestyle.

Which we do.

I'm at an ideal BMI and I haven't been to the doctors in almost 20 years, yet I still pay the same as the 300 pound chain smoker who drinks Mt. Dew exclusively and is on 3 different types of meds. It would be akin to me never being in a car accident and having to pay the same insurance premiums as the guy who totals his car every year.

Lots of people are against universal healthcare because they know it will be used as an excuse to take away our freedoms and our liberties. Just like that. We can't give in to that temptation.

I just hope the new regulations are created by nutritionists, rather than people who watch Dr. Oz.

Why is the only milk option Skim milk or skimmed chocolate milk? There is nothing wrong with whole milk.

Who am I kidding, lobbyists for Big Ag wrote these guidelines.

Newflash: Mrs. Obama tried to establish new guidelines for nutrition within school lunches, but was rebuffed due to it pissing off the agricultural lobbyists. That is why she had to change her tune from "Eat Healthy" to "Get Moving."

Encouraging kids to exercise is less controversial than suggesting their change their nutritional intake.

I was still in school 30 years ago. My school had a salad bar. *shrug*

What school was this?

That is the first time I've ever heard of a school having a salad bar.

What does it being her birthday have to do with it, you think he gives a fuck when her birthday is...

What's this "her" stuff?

Yeah, crying about "socialism" isn't going to change the fact that we have an epidemic of fat ass kids who don't need to be eating 1500 calories at lunch. Period. And please stop acting like every single meal children are eating is going to be 600 calories, because that's asinine.

A single mcdouble and a small fries at McDonalds is 610 calories, not counting soda, and not counting that literally nobody gets a single mcdouble and a small fries. Your methodology is ass.

Do you really believe it's school lunches that are making them fat though? It's what they're eating when they get home, and a lack of discipline from the parents.

Serving them kale salad at lunch, is not going to stop them from eating a box of cookies when they get home.

You can't force kids to eat what they don't want to. If the food is just being wasted, what's the problem? I'd like to see something like this worked out for the homeless. You don't need the government to force feed your kid apples and celery. If it ain't working, then scrap it. What's the issue?
Disagreed. "The kids won't eat healthy, so we're just going to feed them junk."

Maybe the issue is that the kids need to learn to eat better, not just want they want. Discipline isn't a bad thing, especially at SCHOOL.

They learn how to eat better all the time. Here's the thing though. They're kids. They don't give a shit. They need to be disciplined by their parents to eat better. Besides, it's not like they're forced to eat(let alone purchase) the school's food, which is what I would imagine this revision is all about. Waste and costs for the schools.

It was a noble cause, but if it's not working and schools are taking a big loss on it, then you can't just keep it going because it sounds good on paper.

Settle down and stop with the assumptions. The food was disgusting by almost all accounts. I'm not forcing my kid to eat crap like that in the name of Michelle Obama. This is a stupid thing to get so riled about.
I generally sent my daughter to school with lunch prepared at home, BTW and honestly, I don't really recall school lunch being all that unhealthy before this nonsense anyway.

Jeeze. For us it was pizza/pizza pockets/fried bean burritos/hamburgers with dry meat. Basically a rotation of that.

We also had open campus so most of us would just go to Jack in the Box or - once we could drive - Taco Bell (it was on the other side of town).

But god damn was that school food gross. We washed it all down with cherry cokes too.

Trump is the embodiment of triggered and rustled.

I can’t even remember what my school cafeteria looked like. Was always in the bush smoking dime sacks of schwag and buying smokes from the old Asian corner store owner who would sell to all the school kids.

Yeah boo healthy eating for kids and stuff, grrr nutrition and stuff makes my blood boil grrr

Well, feeding children is a parents job. I will send my daughters with healthy lunches. I dont want the government feeding my children.

Schools should hire cooks to scratch make meals anyway.
