Economy Trump administration now says that millions of illegal workers employed in farms and hospitality can work in the US

So then what makes an immigrant illegal? Only if they haven't done crimes? So then you're ok with people crossing the border undocumented and living regular lives. But the line is that they committed a crime by crossing the border. But if they get permits then they aren't illegal. But Trump is revoking immigrant's permission from countries like Haiti when they used to be here legally. But now they can't be here even if they haven't committed crimes.

You see the disconnect here? You either want illegal, undocumented people to be allowed in the country or you don't. We're not talking about people seeking work under certain legal channels that allow them to be here. Because that's not an illegal alien.

I want well-intentioned people, who have come here illegally because there's no reasonable or efficient way for them to get in legally, to be given a fair hearing and the appropriate documentation so we can recognize their contribution but also have them pay their dues.

I would love for it to be a straightforward process for non-citizens to work in America - bring them all over during the planting and harvest seasons, and send them all back when there's nothing for them to do. And if there are year-round sanitation and service workers that are here illegally, I want them to get the proper paperwork so they're documented and can pay income tax and the like.

In short, if you are here illegally, I don't think you should be here, no matter who you are. But I also want it to be easier for non-citizens to work in America, so that they don't have to come over illegally. The main problem to solve is people who are benefiting from our government but not contributing to it - that's not fair to anyone.

Growing the food that keeps you alive for the last 30 years.
30? I'm 43 and there's not a single day in my life when the apple orchards, spinach fields, meat processing plants, etc weren't worked by illegal labor. Shit they lived in tiny wood shanties between the rows of apple trees. Not a single fucking poster on this site is willing to do that for pennies.

As I understand it, these workers are currently illegal with no papers of any sort. This is meant to formalize the process, saying they're still not citizens but they have a legal right to reside and work in the United States. Plenty of countries do that already, and I'm amazed it's taken the USA this long to do it too.
This is how I understand the situation. Which is a normal approach. Am I missing something? Why are the womenfolk treating it like some enormous fuck up?

Oh, and TIN(tax identification number) have been available much longer than "the last administration". Many of these essential workers pay taxes to the country they are in.

This must not be a universal take then. "God damn Mexicans" are called out on sight at your local Walmart just for looking Mexican and without knowing their legal status or what job they work. But the paradox still remains. We don't want illegal immigrants except the ones who do the important jobs. But we want them to have work permits. Which renders them legal immigrants. So we STILL don't want illegal immigrants.

You really made me watch that bullshit...

You must be rich AF if all of the DOGE findings are BS, or not a taxpayer, good enough.

Billions in unemployment benefits going to illegals that Never Worked doesn't bother you?

Payments sent to 100 year olds & scumbags with dates of birth IN THE Future is OK ?

Really hope everyone recieving these illegal payments are held accountable.

I'm in the military. I get paid shit lol.

This is another bullshit "finding" based on them not understanding how data is put into the system. They claimed the same thing with SS and we're wrong.

But hey, keep eating up the propaganda kiddo.

Many thanks for your service GSG, full hespect to all with military careers.

Tracking these new Unemployment findings is separate from the SS excitement.
What isn't separate is ALL of the fraud comes from stolen taxpayer money.

DOGE reports can have mistakes, the people in the roles of analyzing data are only human and their website is available to make their findings accessible to the public.

Propaganda comes in a ton of forms, not sure how that applies to the reports of fraud.

Hate using FAUX News, but these SS findings Are mind blowing.

DOGE reports are regularly full of mistakes, misrepresented, or false. I have no more good faith left to give to an organization that operates in this way.

Propaganda can very easily come in false reports. It's politically driven and sends a message regardless if the information is true.

I don't believe you're discussing in bad faith but I also see that you have a lot of faith in DOGE. Fundamentally, we are not going to agree on if these findings can be trusted

The Trump admin proposed allowing illegal immigrant workers, currently in the US, working in hospitality and farming, will be allowed to work here. Under this plan the workers will need to leave, and the US government will then issue them a visa which will allow them to return.

On Thursday, Trump said at a Cabinet meeting, "We have to take care of our farmers, the hotels and, you know, the various places where they tend to, where they tend to need people."

--

I understand the farm worker situation because American farmers depend on migrant labor, and they were pissed with the effect the Trump admin's border/illegal immigration policy had on their businesses. Lack of workers would also increase grocery prices.

I didn't get why Trump would also include hospitality, but then realized he owns hotels/resorts/golf courses, which must have also influenced his decision.

I thought conservatives were against rewarding illegal immigrants. Isn't giving illegals a visa to return rewarding.
Really? Is Trump just realizing that American industry benefits from these working class folks? WTF? This administration is such a cluster fuck.

Except it’s not making just anyone legal. It’s a work visa program with background checks. If you get fired or laid off, then your visa get pulled and adios. This something Trump said he wanted more of.
Yeah, in other words, exactly what democrats have advocated for while republicans reject it as “amnesty”.
