Time to start giving Islam some respect.

Islam gets the same respect from me as he did before this fight. He's a great LW, that's about it. This fight changed nothing.

Is he one of the better current champs... No
Is he fun, entertaining, exciting... No
Has he done overly "great" yet... Not really
Am I a fan... Hell no

The rightful LW contender in your eyes, Justin Gaethje, was KO'd by a FW who Volk beat 3x. So why are you diminishing Mak's defenses against Volk lol? Makes zero sense.

what makes zero sense is why Islam picked to fight Voilk on 10 days notice and not full camp Arman who was specifically brought in as a replacement. it doesn't make sense why Islam would pick Poirer over Gaethje after Gaethje KO'd Poirer. the only sense it can make is Islam wanted easier fights.

he's complained his whole career that the entire LW division is ducking him. but there seems to be a fair amount of LWs that are ok with fighting him. then i hear he wants to go to 170lb, and now everyone is saying he's already the uncrowned king with zero WW fights in the UFC and that he'll be even better at that weight class, even though he's spent his entire UFC career at LW for some reason.

i'm a cynical asshole, when people start hyping guys without them proving it, i tend to NOT believe the hype. with all that said, Islam is a great fighter, a top world class fighter, i'm just not sure if he's the best LW and i'm definitely not buying that he's the uncrowned WW king.

I began believing the hype after he fucked Chuck

He isn't the uncrowned king at WW, I am with you on that and if Shavkat gets the belt before Islam, I think he'll be quiet on the matter which is what I hope for. Solidify himself as the best LW ever.

Has bro hit di Power Kube yet? Ting a good fraud check made Aspinall question himself rightfully so lets see what Islam can do first fore mandem make premature assessments fam no disrespect 🗣️📠🧸

Khabib had 4 top 10 wins before he won the title, Islam had none
Outside of RDA who was injured and didn’t train grappling at all……..

You really think MJ and Barboza are that far ahead of Arman, Dober, Green and Hooker? MJ and Barboza can never hold a rank long and been hyper inflated. The quality isn’t that different tbh.

Islam KO’ed Tibau and Khabib arguably lost to him or at the very least looked like shit struggling.

I thought this was about defenses? Since you moved the ball to pre title fights Islams competition looks better than 2 50/50 weight classes dropping inconsistent ass fighters in MJ / Barboza. Ranked or not those guys aren’t all that.

Lol at reading off the list of Brazilian excuses. Khabib has 7 top 10 wins. Islam has 2. Barboza was coming off wins over Dariush, Melendez, and Pettis when Khabib beat him, and went on to dominate Hooker after that (also has a win over Green). Not to say Islam won't overtake Khabib's resume, but he still has work to do.

Okay so Gilbert and Anthony are on massive skids. Infact the only win Gilbert has was Diego Sanchez during that streak. Edsons biggest win streaks are 2-3 fights in a row outside of his entrance into the UFC. He’s legit one of the most inconsistent fighters on the roster and loses as much as he wins. Benny was t someone anyone looked at as a contender early on. It was the streak after a few losses that built him up.

List all 7 “top 10 wins”. And honestly look at who are actual top 10 mainstays.

Also Khabib barely fought once he hit the elite level and Islam seems much more busy.

2015 0 fights

2016 2 fights

2017 1 fight

2018 2 fights

2019 1 fight creates interim

2020 1 fight created interim

Islam has 16 LW fights and 1 CW in the UFC

Khabib had 11 LW fights and 2 CW in the UFC

Islam is the more active fighter

Gamrot was the backup, not Arman.

And he called to fight Gaethje right after he KOed Volk. Can you guess what the response was from this forum and the wider MMA fanbase? (You can do a quick search, I'll wait)

The only current male champ with more defenses than Islam is Jon Jones, and those were in a different division. How can you say he isn't at least one of the better current champions?

I think the reigning champion has shown that actions speak louder than words.

Hes shown that he is still very hittable as well and when he's not fighting gatekeepers and featherweights he's going to be in some trouble. Leon edwards would destroy him the ufc will not make that fight.
