Time to start giving Islam some respect.

defend against Arman, then maybe. but until then, his defenses have been vs handpicked opponents from the weight class below or who are old as fuck and had just been KO'd.
Dustin was coming off a win and Volk earned his shot at becoming a double champion. Not his fault Oliveira pulled out, he saw another opportunity and tried again.

Dustin was KO'd by Gaethje who was the rightful #1 contender. Volk might've earned his shot, but Islam didn't. his 1st defense vs a guy who isn't even a LW? makes no sense. it's not his fault that Oliveira pulled out, but it sure is his fault that he chose 10 days notice Volk over full camp Arman who was specifically brought into be a replacement in case this exact situation happened.

This is some impressive spin, but Volk and Dustin were not deserved LW contenders. It's downright embarrassing to fluff Islam for beating Volk in particular when the size difference was so extreme.

Also nobody is taking away the Chuck win. We are talking about his wins as defending champ - not the perfectly legit win he claimed to become chaml.

Nobody is saying Islam is shit. I am saying his title reign has been shit. Two different things.
At least Islam didn’t create an interim title situation twice with inactivity.

You can argue #1 p4p Volk > 2+ years off Conor. If you do the butt butt he beat a FW, you can say the same about Conor really. They both essentially moved up to fight for LW belt.

Dustin x2 and Justin are fairly equal regardless. Dustin was a 5 fight win streak when he got Khabib and Justin 4 fight win streak (and arguable every guy he beat were washed or not that great. (Vick, Cowboy, Barboza and Tony?) weren’t all those guys winless after that minus Barboza who is a .500 fighter and loses half his fights on the reg. He also changed weight classes.

Dustin was 5-2 going into the Islam fight since losing to Khabib and he was 5-1-1 (both streaks he was brutally KO’ed in 1 loss) going into the Khabib title fight. Justin losing and Arman wanting 6 months to train for him made him the best choice to remain active honestly. It’s not terribly undeserving.

If Islam were Khabib he would have taken 13-14 months off after Volk 2 and we would have Arman vs Dustin for interim title.

Also Dustin may not have deserved the fight this time around but he’s still a threat. IMO Dustin and Justin lost value as a win regardless. They were both soundly beaten by Charles and have taken losses after the declaration by Khabib that “they’re the best and nobody is left”. Neither were never a strong and solid #2 like other champions had in their divisions.

I do think short notice Volk is the weakest win between the two for defenses.

Khabib lacks a marquee win. Like someone with crazy momentum that was a solidified top 3 for a long period of time (without squatting or fuckery). He almost had it with Tony. Islam has that in Charles and Volk, 2 guys with insane momentum that he defeated.

Gaethje has since lost and most thought he'd make easy work of Holloway. The UFC had to deal with that and gave it to Poirier who is always game as shown by last Saturday. It's the UFC's own fault they chose to make their number 1 contender defend a fake belt. The Arman situation is shitty but Islam was damned if he accepted that fight cause had he won, the detractors would scream he's ducking Volk lol.

Is the baseline respect for another human being who hasn't done anything shitty to me personally or seriously annoyed me good enough?

Who isn't respecting him? I mean, not liking him and not respecting him are 2 different things, but the dude is clearly king at LW and I don't see anybody beating him anytime soon.

Dana said Islam deserves no respect. Jon Jones is the best. Then Conor.

The rightful LW contender in your eyes, Justin Gaethje, was KO'd by a FW who Volk beat 3x. So why are you diminishing Mak's defenses against Volk lol? Makes zero sense.

are people not giving him respect ?

he was the betting favorite against oliveira even before the bobby green fight. (oliveira had already beaten tony, chandler, and poirier at that time)

I would say

Charles > Al Iaquinta

Full camp #1 p4p Volk > 2+ year layoff Conor

Dustin > short notice Volk

Dustin Justin a tie

So in reality I would say Islams reign is a tad bit higher quality than Khabib. Plus Islam is active and didn’t create 2 interim belts and have his competition eliminate each other like Khabib did. Def some advantages here for Islam.

I would say beating Charles when he did > injured ear RDA, Dustin or Justin. Charles at the time Islam beat him has to be the best overall win.
Khabib had 4 top 10 wins before he won the title, Islam had none
