There is a lack of stars right now

One of the big reasons guys like GSP, Anderson, Jones, Aldo, Hughes and others are so remembered and still talked about too this day is because they were long reigning champs and they defended their belts against the number 1 contenders in the division time after time after time.. they actually had some substance and something about them
Adesanya wasnt that long ago, and some couldnt wait for him to lose.

People just need to have some patience.

Things are always evolving.

There are stars but there is too much over saturation. We just go to have an event every 2 - 3 months now there are almost weekly events for months at a time. You can only keep track of so many fighters and stars can get swept up in the sea of mediocrity.

I don't disagree, nor do I care.

I watch MMA to see elite fighters fight each other.

The question of who becomes popular and who doesn't is beyond anyone's control. The fighters can only control what they do in the ring.

The fact that most casual fans don't care about Usman vs Shabliy doesn't take away from the fact that that fight is one of the biggest ones of the year.

"The fighters can only control what they do in the ring."

They can't control what they say on the mic?

Yeah I mean I follow the UFC pretty closely but a lot of the Apex cards I have no idea of more than half of the fighters

well this is what happens when the greedy UFC doesnt want to market fighters in fear of
them getting leverage during their next contract negotiations. They cant even stand out on their own. they
all wear that ugly venum crap and their entrances are all the same.

Also look at how Dana does fighters he dont like. You mean to tell me if i get on dana bad side i will keep getting passed over
like leon, belal, or that if i did win the belt and defended it like Aljo, tyron, cyborg that after ONE loss nnot only can i be denied
a rematch but i can also be cut or forced to move to another weight class?
AND ON TOP OF THAT IM GETTING UNDERPAID !!

ALSO LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO CONNOR.....NUFF SAID.

Ilia, Jiri, and BSD.

Even current stars like Justin and Dustin lost before a big breakout. Give those three time and you will see it. Action friendly styles and never in a boring fight.

Agree. Everybody now is so forced cringy and vanilla. We need more Chuck's, Tito's, Diaz bros and dare I say it Conor's in the fight game.

Lol at Diaz bros. They are immature sore loser.

khazmat and islam are massive stars but not even mentioned here

Went from Brock to Ronda to Conor an yeah hasn't really been a star since.

Bones, GSP, Khabib,Anderson,Amanda, etc were stars but not on their level. Those 3 just resonated and drew a mass audience making them stars even though their talent would struggle to make the top 5 ever in their own divisions.

Maybe with the new stricter drug testing program spearheaded by the UFC we will get more talent now

Sometimes I just look up at the Sky on a clear Night instead

GSP is a star? He's a GOAT but lets not act like he brought non-watchers into the sport, he's too calm for that. I'd argue that Colby drew in more attention than he did in his time and thats going to ruffle a lot of feathers but its true.

Khabib brought more of the eastern world (particularly islamic nations) through his performance against conor. If that fight was delayed and never happened like the Ferguson one, he wouldn't be a star at all or thrown into goat convos as much as he has.
GSP was Canadian athlete of the year twice. Everybody I know from Canada kniws who he is. BRP had him introduce their Ryker to dealers. He dropped the puck in NHL games. He's even been in movies.

There's never been many real stars. Only really Conor, Ronda, GSP, Anderson, Jones, Chuck, Tito, Rampage, Brock and Khabib were really stars.
Well, we don't have ppv numbers anymore so we don't know really. Adesanya is pretty high up there currently (I'm guessing we looking at YouTube views numbers nowadays)

it's almost like superstars are a rare breed and because of their rarity it is what also adds to their popularity. you have to go through vanilla phases in order to get superstars. that's how it works. if every year a new superstar showed up, guess what, they're not superstars anymore, they're just fighters.

I think we are in desperate need in some long reigning champions, UFC is lacking that a lot. The belts get passed around like confetti and they champs are too inactive as well and after zero title defenses they are wanting a so called "superfight", its so lame.

I miss champions who defend their belts against all the number 1 contenders and go on long reigns, it makes them a star and also they get that aura. These days everyone wants a superfight after no title defenses lol, its beyond ridiculous, and its not a superfight is it, its done too often now, its lost all of its appeal, they have barely done anything.

this more than anything. we don't need superstars. we need long reigning champions to establish legacies. the superstar status will work itself if you just keep winning.

Haven’t really cared much about star power in a while. I just enjoy good fights. So far, pretty much every champ at the moment is pretty exciting. That works for me.

Happens when you prioritize the brand over stars who sell the brand. WWE went through it UFC will learn from it once Dana and old heads are gone.

WWE still had superstars they promoted like John Cena, Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley etc., the biggest difference is the UFC can't make the fighters they think are stars win.
