Cyril Gane is a terrible student in that he applies himself to the things he is good at but neglects the things he is not, (don't ask me how I know this). Cyril gravitates to what comes easy and avoids situations where he can't be the best with only minimal effort--In other words he is a prima donna. But he is a natural athlete, elite for his size, and a striking prodigy, so he excelled in kickboxing. Unfortunately, there's no money or fame in kickboxing so he moved on to MMA. Ok, but the problem being, he's not a natural grappler, grappling being essential to the sport, and has zero interest in putting in the long and hard work it would take to become proficient. In true prima donna fashion he profited from favorable matchups and rode it as long as he could until he was brutally exposed by an old, slow shadow of a former champion who's wrestling had devolved to the point where he couldn't even take down non-wrestling Light Heavyweights.
Tom Aspinall is the complete opposite. He's not the best at anything but he has the drive and dedication to be the best overall. He's the student who isn't as smart or naturally gifted but he puts in the work that others won't, ultimately getting the better grades and achieving a higher degree of success.
Unless Cyril Gane has completely changed his nature, I don't see this going well for him.
