Movies THE MATRIX: RESURRECTIONS (New Trailer)

Omg wtf was that mess? They mostly rehashed the first movie and made it as convoluted and nonsensical as possible. Seriously what is this absurd trend of taking good female characters and over powering them with zero explanation? Trinity is the one now as well? Give me a break.

I don't understand how it's generating this many negative reviews. I thought it was a great movie.

Neil Patrick Harris was great as the new Architect. I thought the new self aware Morpheus was on point, character wise. The new crew is pretty interesting (loving the amount of Sense8 actors in this film), even though they are all very minor characters.

The only complaint I could make is the portrayal of The Merovingian, but he was on screen for like 30 seconds and we know absolutely nothing about what happened to him since the last film (Apart from Neo not fulfilling his function and resetting the Matrix thus setting off something of a civil war between the machines).

All in all I'd give it a strong 9/10, on par with the first Matrix film.

Wow

No

This movie isn't half a bad as many in here are making it out to be. It is pointless. It is harmless. The action is dull. However, it isn't a real true clusterfuck. There were some real genuine, funny moments in this film and that first hour was done well when it referenced the original and poked fun at itself and game development. I had no issues with the cast either. The film was just too damn long and it tread no new ground.

The fact is they set up an impossible problem for themselves in all the sequels: okay so this world is a shitty simulation of mediocrity, and now we get to escape and reshape it. What is the better alternative? And that's what they had to show after the first film.

LOL they have no fucking idea after getting past the leather bondage outfits and dyed hair.

It’s the worst film of 2020 and 2021.

It’s an insult, it is that bad.

What was Ms W thinking? Utter utter hot garbage.

They should have left this well alone.

I see Razzy Awards all over this turkey.

You can say that about every movie.

Poster has to be trolling or their opinion is just trash. Nothing redeeming about this movie whatsoever.
A few people said 2/10 which is around where I'm at. The baffling thing is a number of people said 5-7 that didn't seem to be trolling. Even a 5 seems way too high and a 7 is absurd. Movie was dogshit.

You can say that about every movie.
I can’t think of another movie which has disrespected the law of the originals more than this turd.

That's including Star Wars.

It was a movie made during covid restrictions so it was to be expected.

I went in open minded and hopeful but it just wasn't good. I'm not going to say it was a bad movie but it certainly wasn't good. If you are judging it strictly as a Matrix movie, it's a bad movie.

The action felt forced and cheesy. The acting was mostly terrible. I love Keanu but man is the guy a terrible actor. There was no smart philosophical discussion or really anything to chew on. It's just a paint by the numbers sci-fi movie that is competent but offers nothing new outside of a tiny bit of lore. It just doesn't need to exist. If you are a fan of the Matrix or the entire trilogy, 4 is completely pointless and feels like an epilogue, "What If?", alternate universe or a fan film.

I got strong Terminator 3 vibes out of it where that movie was just trying to be Terminator 2 but nowhere near as good. Not having Edward Furlong and Linda Hamilton really hurt it. If it had those characters, it would have elevated to possibly being a good movie. With Matrix Resurrections, I felt absolutely no connection to Morpheus or Smith. If it had been Fishburne and Weaving, it would have elevated it to that next level.

A straight down the middle 5/10. Not good. Not bad. Just OK/mediocre and forgettable.

This movie was fucking terrible. I would have walked out if I wasn't with other people who enjoyed it.

I actually paused the movie around the 20 min marker and debated turning it off. I continued on for another 40 mins and saved the rest for the next night. The only reason I soldiered through because it was the Matrix and wanted to know how deep the shitty rabbit hole goes.

My only guess at this point was this was a partial fuck you directed at Warner Brothers.

I googled around and this article from 2017 states "At this point, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original and its two sequels, are not involved and the nature of their potential engagement with a new version has not been determined. "

In the movie they make a literal reference to Warner Brothers and a sequel. Anyway doesn't change how bad the movie is just could be the inspiration for the dumb story. Warner Brothers were going to make this either way so Wachowski jumps in with a story that is literal to this fact. Warner Brothers must be so desperate for content and having something with 'Wachowski' in the directing credits they would let anything fly.

---------------------------------------------------

Smith: "Now what? Things have changed. The market's tough. I'm sure you can understand why our beloved parent company, Warner Brothers, has decided to make a sequel to the trilogy."
Thomas: "What?"
Smith: "They informed me they're gonna do it with or without us."
Thomas: "I thought they couldn't do that."
Smith: "Oh, they can. And they made it clear they'll kill our contract if we don't cooperate."
Thomas: "Really?"
Smith: "I know you said the story was over for you, but that's the thing about stories. They never really end, do they? We're still telling the same stories we've always told, just with different names, different faces. And I have to say, I'm kind of excited. After all these years, to be going back to where it all started, back to The Matrix."
Even though I don't agree with them using key words like WB, that scene sets up this scene very nicely.

Neo: "If they wanted to keep it a secret why would they let me make a Matrix game for the whole world to see? Why did it take you this long to find me?"

Bugs:"That's what the machines do. They like to make trivial, things that are important."

Yeah, I would love to have them focus on the war between machines, and use that as reason to resurrect Neo, or perhaps an excuse for the old guard machine faction to have him entrapped.

Yep which is what I thought was going to happen for a split second. Then I quickly realized that's not what we are getting.

Well I watched it. People are panning the movie, but I really think it wasn't as bad as they say.

The Matrix films are really about making a social commentary, not just science fiction, and in this they succeed.
However when it comes down to it, the film is much less visceral than the 1999 original.
Maybe they tried to make a point about this being a new iteration of the Matrix, so they gave it a warmer color palette, but it's not as "real" as the 1999 film and the world feels more fake and CGI filled.

Also, the original was more thrilling and terrifying. I actually like the scenario for this new film, but again, the execution feels less impactful, you could call it a "budget matrix 1999". For those that know anime, it's a little like if you compare Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super.

Matrix 1999 was a powerful film with a combination of 1) memorable cast, 2) Impactful action sequences, 3) Amazing special effects, 4) memorable groundbreaking scenario. This new film does all that but much weaker.

What bothered me the most is the humor in the film.
They actually repeatedly mock and laugh at "Mr Anderson"/Neo in this film in a kind of comedic manner (whilst making jokes about modern societal tropes like cancel culture), whilst in the original the agents were terrifying and the world was oppressive.

I just feel that humor/comedy shouldn't really have a place in a Matrix film. Escaping the matrix shouldn't be "funny" or "ridiculous". A matrix is supposed to be a terrifying thing that all humans are imprisoned in.

So basically this movie is a missed opportunity and a bit underwhelming, but I would hope that they continue the franchise.
However the ending sucked and was just too positive, so its unlikely we get sequels.

I didn't hate this film, but its one of those moments where you wonder if the originals were fine as they were, and they shouldn't have made a 4th film.
I mean, a 4th film could have been made (as the Matrix under a new iteration exists so a plot is logical), but under the assumption that a 4th film should really be made extremely well and be groundbreaking like 1999's version. They didn't do that. They made what could be a called an extra, a bonus disk sequel, not a full blown 4th film. This is disappointing because whilst there are cool moments in this film and seeing Neo/Trinity is just great, it does cheapen everything.

Still, seeing Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss reunited and looking as well as ever, makes it worth it.
It's fan service, its not a groundbreaking 4th matrix film.
