Television The Anime and Manga Thread: v45

Solo Leveling. The System is no More , the Shadow Monarch is arisen and his Commanders are restored.

Trying random stuff and ran across Seoul Station Druid. Premise is nothing new but one thing I really appreciate so far is that there is almost zero exposition.

i'm actually reading domestic girlfriend under a theory that it might be the most misunderstood manga/anime of our era.

<{outtahere}>

yup, pretty much. i don't understand why this has the reputation it has exactly - i can see people checking it out due to the dumpster fire rep... but i don't see how they can insist it's that after actually reading it (or even watching the laughably incomplete anime).

it wasn't trashy, it was a tragedy. one wake of devastation after another... but it was actually pretty well-written (with a few exceptions, ie: portrayal of new yorkers) and solid.

Started watching Tokyo Revengers. Only watched the first 2 episodes but the main character is such a bitch so far.
He is a bitch and hasnt changed.
You made it one more episode than I did lol
I know you like action and shit, it gets way better when the good characters come in. But I still wouldnt recommend it, MC is the biggest bitch in anime.

Slave B: Ughh. Dropped. Trying to find a decent story is hard these days. Shouldn’t have expected too much from this story anyways. So much bad writing and characters are even worse.

I tried that one earlier this year. Dropped it after a dozen or so chapters. I honestly don't even remember the details, it made that much of an impression.

You didn’t miss much believe me. I thought it would turn into one of those it’s so bad it’s good but it’s just bad.

Have you read something that was so comically bad that you found enjoyment out of it?

In my experience "so bad it's good" is a mythical beast. It's always been "so bad it's just bad".

First like 12 episodes of Edens Zero are released on Netflix for anyone who was a fan of Fairy Tail. Japan is up to around ep 19 or 20 now.

I can't remember the last time my opinion on a series soured as fast as it has on Solo Leveling's last few chapters. It went from something that was must-read that I looked forward to every week, had reread multiple times, and suddenly I find myself not giving a shit. I haven't read the LN, but just based on narrative structure I wouldn't be surprised if the series ends before the end of the year...and I just can't seem to care. I have no confidence whatsoever that this is going to be brought to a well-written conclusion.

I think I'm now down to only three releases that I actively look forward to each week: Northern Blade, Eleceed, and Mercenary Enrollment. Which make me realize, all three are webtoons and I don't think there is a single weekly manga that I follow anymore (EDIT: I guess there's Monster #8 and Ippo, but neither of those are strictly weekly. Monster #8 is 2/3-on-1-off and Ippo is however much George feels like putting out).

I haven't watched an anime in years, but stumbled across Gundam 00 in my HULU recommendations and thought I remembered hearing good things so I gave it a shot. I couldn't even make it through the first episode. How do you guys manage to watch this crap?

EDIT: So, to avoid anybody taking this too seriously, I'm just bitching here. It just seemed like a retread of the same old shit. Child soldiers, heavy handed symbolism, etc. And the animation sucked. I can't really speak on the mecha designs based on 20 minutes; they seemed...like gundams.

I've been buying them as they come out, totally worth it even with already owning all the regular editions.
I bought the first 7 deluxe versions, haven't read any yet. Pre-ordered part 8, but it got cancelled. Pre-ordered it again, seems 22th of September will be the new release date.

Maybe try a different show or two? They can be very very different - the story telling style, the pacing, the music, the artwork, pretty much everything. I haven't seen that many different animes, but they've all had their own style and identity (I know there's a lot of generic stuff out there as well).

Other members here probably have better recommendations then I could give.

I'll be watching this in theaters soon. Always excited to watch anime in theaters. It has one screening in Toronto. Tickets go on sale September 7.

Amazon just sent me an update on that one and it said September 10th. I have to remember to add 9+10 to my preorders.

lol, don't think you noticed the user before replying. I appreciate the enthusiasm but that was more meant to be rhetorical bitching than anything else. I was just instantly turned off by yet another gundam series focused on child soldiers and heavy handed symbolism.

Good to know there's at least 2 volumes after this, do you happen to know how much material is left for the deluxe editions after that?
