Television The Anime and Manga Thread: v45

Does it feel like there's just been a huge drop in quality in terms of anime in the past decade?

I feel like there's 2-3 great shows a year, with maybe one standing out. Megalo Box season 2 is a step down from the first and its just so boring. Dropped after 6 episodes in. Season 1 was amazing though. Maybe itll be better once I go in with a better mindset or mood.

AOT is still the GOAT, hurry up with the final season.

Tokyo Revengers has some damn great characters but the MC is maybe the biggest most pathetic lilttle bitch in the history of anime. They took the crying bitch MC character and turned it up to 11. I know its pandering to the loser kids trying to escape their boring lives but cmon man, atleast let the guy grow as a character. I like everything else though, except the pacing. I just want to see more fights.

Wen Kengan Asura season 3 ffs? Gimme some more baki, I just need to watch some 1 on 1 over the top action.

One of my guilty pleasures is the blue slime show, gonna wait for part 2 to finish. Just gives me that lovely nostalgic feeling that the Yotsuba manga used to give me nearly 2 decades ago.

I don't think its a drop in quality, I think it's a drop in shows you enjoy and its understandable. Personally I can't stand AOT and I absolutely hated Baki, while loving Kengan Ashura.
But every year for me shows come out I enjoy and quite often I'll find a show that I'll be watching for years i.e Edens Zero which is coming to netflix this week.
I'm not saying every show is a gem and I've watched shows this year I would never have watched before if I didn't have a girlfriend who wanted to watch them. And idk why but I enjoyed them i.e Don't Toy with me Miss Nagatoro or Miss Kobiyashis Dragon Maid.
But even show styles I do enjoy I can't get into sometimes, for instance I could not find anything to enjoy about Black Clover, yet love everything about My Hero Academia or Fire Force.

Shows like Gangsta which immediately hooked me only to get canned piss me off. I've had to read the Manga to find out how the story progressed.

Nice viewpoint.

I enjoy a lot of genre's and I think the drop in quality is due to nothing being creatively out there or new. Everything seems to be an Isekai, and once youve seen one, youve seen them all.

A good shonen will always be something I enjoy, even though I know theyre not great or new. I can watch something similar to DBZ and enjoy it, but I know theyre not gonna be a Death Note or AOT.

AOT is just fantastically written. I know it was hugely mainstream, but if this was an American show, I guarantee we would have people say its on The Wire or Breaking Bad level good. The writing is that great imo. The red herrings, the twists, turns and mystery are executed to near perfection.

Baki is just musclebound freaks beating each other up, similar to Kengan. TBH its hard for Kengan to get up under the Baki ripoff status, but its just as fun. Love the unique artstyle too, I like shit that looks weird at first. Kaiji is another that looks weird, and I ended up adoring. Art styles are always overcome by good writiing, and/or action imo.

I 100% agree about the Isekai issue. Like holy shit every thing is that genre now. I love Re:Zero, I enjoyed Konosuba, I enjoyed How not to Summon a Demon Lord. I couldn't get into Overlord, but suddenly every fucking show is Isekai. I'm actively trying to avoid the genre now.

dude...

well, i guess you did like death note, so...

but just sayin, it's more like if the wire

ended with avon barksdale (or mcnulty, but that has no pun) being a literal dog after the police mercilessly killed the drug dealers, only to then pull a 180 and decide to team up with the remaining few dealers left alive and kill cops, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Don't Toy with me Miss Nagatoro

imo, that was a surprisingly good anime. it was no masterpiece or anything, but it was an easy/enjoyable watch.

Dont know about the manga, and havent read it. It cant be worse than GOT. And frankly the last 2 seasons preceding the final season of GOT were ehhhh, but absolutely amazing for AOT.

Got my step daughter watching full metal alchemist brother Hood and demon slayer with subs ...while her dads trying to push dbz get...dub

it might be a taste thing. i never wanted to watch hxh, can't take kill la kill seriously, thought madoka was "ehh," and didn't see the 4th you mentioned. as per above, i thought steins;gate sucked (loved it til about halfway...)... and also thought black lagoon sucked, too.

I thought HXH was great but yea I couldn't get into Kill la Kill. Madoka was boring as fuck I could not get into that one. Steins Gate took me a minute to get into and even then it was just ok. Black Lagoon I wasn't a fan of.

Anime wise what would you watch. Kingdom vs Berserk (assuming you never read the manga)? Thinking about picking up a new (new to me) series to watch and running out of ideas or just being too stubborn to watch certain shows that I have yet to watch. If anyone want to throw out any other suggestions. I prefer anything with lots of action/fighting. I've already watched many, but there are so much out there that I have yet to see.

I also finished Gintama Final Movie and it's bitter sweet to finally come to an end.

Godzilla Singular Point was great. I finished that up a few weeks ago. Story and animation was fantastic!

Currently on season 2 of Dr. Stone. Season 1 was great and season 2 picks up where it left off. But looking at the episode list, Season 2 ends early... WTF? The manga and anime were really popular, so what the hell happened with the anime for season 2? Anybody know??

I'll look into the Godzilla show. I already watched Dr. Stone S1 and S2 and enjoyed both. Not sure why it was less episodes then expected, but looking forward to Season 3. I've watched a bunch of random popular first seasons series last year so I need to check if any of them have a second season that's already out or coming out soon like Cautious Hero, Goblin Slayer, The Rising of the Shield Hero and a few others I can't think off the top of my head.

Finally got this master piece in the mail.

Glorious.

I've been buying them as they come out, totally worth it even with already owning all the regular editions.

Kingdom vs Berserk

i tried to watch kingdom and hated it. but i only saw like 1.5 episodes. i don't even know which berserk you're referring to, but the old anime was ok and the OVAs were pretty good (minus some awful cgi that was so out of place). the 2016 anime was... a thing that existed.
