Television The Anime and Manga Thread: v45

Good to know there's at least 2 volumes after this, do you happen to know how much material is left for the deluxe editions?
They seem to be collecting three volumes in each deluxe edition, and D8 is V22-24. The most recent volume is 40, so there are 5 or 6 left. Depending on how things are being handled with releases, which I don't think we know yet so soon after Miura's passing, I'd expect Deluxe 13 or 14 to be the end of the series.

What modern anime has cool mech + interesting characters and good modern art?

I'd also like to know. I've enjoyed the Knights & Magic manga but the anime clips I watched were...not good.

Amazon just sent me an update on that one and it said September 10th. I have to remember to add 9+10 to my preorders.

lol, don't think you noticed the user before replying. I appreciate the enthusiasm but that was more meant to be rhetorical bitching than anything else. I was just instantly turned off by yet another gundam series focused on child soldiers and heavy handed symbolism.

Lol. I'm sure there's anime you'd like, but you'll need to sort through some rough stuff to find it.

I started watching To Your Eternity because I thought it was just a single season story.. Well shit... Just finished the finale and realized its nowhere near done. Now I am stuck with the pain of waiting for yet another anime's new season. Damnit!! It's so much easier when the whole story is out there. ):

First like 12 episodes of Edens Zero are released on Netflix for anyone who was a fan of Fairy Tail. Japan is up to around ep 19 or 20 now.

The waiting game is driving me nuts...

what did you think of it? that's on my list to check out.

It's pretty good. Definitely heavier on the introspective, thought experiment side of things then action. You'll get a pretty good idea of its style if you watch the first couple episodes

i'll probably wait a while... like about a year. so if i like it i can just roll into s2 and not repeat your mistake.

I'll be watching this in theaters soon. Always excited to watch anime in theaters. It has one screening in Toronto. Tickets go on sale September 7.

Wow we finally get an ending to this one. Enjoyed it when it first came out. Might be time to rewatch it and then finish it off with the movie.

I can't remember the last time my opinion on a series soured as fast as it has on Solo Leveling's last few chapters. It went from something that was must-read that I looked forward to every week, had reread multiple times, and suddenly I find myself not giving a shit. I haven't read the LN, but just based on narrative structure I wouldn't be surprised if the series ends before the end of the year...and I just can't seem to care. I have no confidence whatsoever that this is going to be brought to a well-written conclusion.

I think I'm now down to only three releases that I actively look forward to each week: Northern Blade, Eleceed, and Mercenary Enrollment. Which make me realize, all three are webtoons and I don't think there is a single weekly manga that I follow anymore (EDIT: I guess there's Monster #8 and Ippo, but neither of those are strictly weekly. Monster #8 is 2/3-on-1-off and Ippo is however much George feels like putting out).

It's been so many FUCKING AGES since I last posted here that other than the fact that you'll read damn near anything, I can't recall what you liked or what I may have recommended you or anyone else for that matter. All else failing...

Undead Adventurer

Yuusha ga Shindai

Wolf Wont Sleep

...Fuck. Had some more, but my brain broke mid thought and forgot.

Faraway Paladin is fucking amazing and not reading it should be grounds for War Crime tier trials.

Spy x Family is good.

100 Girlfriends is fucking hilarious in how meta it is as well as taking the absolute piss out of both the romcom and harem genres.

So, I got bored recently and decided to watch Beastars. It's genuinely better than it has any right to be. I usually don't like CGI animation, but it works in this case. The only thing I can really hold against it is that the end of season 2 seemed a bit rushed.

Also, the opening for season 1 is one of the GOAT anime openings IMO.

I've tried these three:
Undead Adventurer- I read this one, it's decent but the updates are unfortunately sporadic.
Yuusha ga Shindai- I've tried this one in the past and didn't like it.
Spy x Family- I gave this one a shot back when it was first starting and it wasn't for me. Nothing bad, I just couldn't get into it.

These three are new to me and I'll put on my list to read next: Wolf Wont Sleep, Faraway Paladin, 100 Girlfriends

Undead is getting more consistent with updates and 100 Girlfriends you may or may not like depending on your views on romcom and harem anime. I forgot to list Frieren at the Funeral(official is Frieren at Journeys End, but OG title is better).

Finally watched Mazinger Z Infinity and the story was typical shitty anime story. The modern art was nice. In some parts, the Mazinger Z was so overpowered against so many evil mecha monsters, and it has like unlimited ammo somehow stored in itself.

Wow, that Solo Leveling chapter was terrrrrrrrrrrible. Nothing says "rushed ending" like concluding a long-teased plotline with less than a chapter's worth of exposition and a scene that's supposed to be emotional but has none of the setup or underpinning to get the reaction that it's trying so damn hard to evoke. Awful stuff.
