Television The Anime and Manga Thread: v45

Wow, that Solo Leveling chapter was terrrrrrrrrrrible. Nothing says "rushed ending" like concluding a long-teased plotline with less than a chapter's worth of exposition and a scene that's supposed to be emotional but has none of the setup or underpinning to get the reaction that it's trying so damn hard to evoke. Awful stuff.

Meanwhile, Legend of the Northern Blade was excellent again this week.

Undead is getting more consistent with updates and 100 Girlfriends you may or may not like depending on your views on romcom and harem anime. I forgot to list Frieren at the Funeral(official is Frieren at Journeys End, but OG title is better).
Thoughts.

Wolf Wont Sleep- decent enough, but being cancelled when there's obviously a significant amount of story left means it's not a satisfying read. Given the artwork I was expecting it to be darker but it was much more standard-fantasy than dark-fantasy.

Frieren at Journeys End- Interesting setup for a story, but I felt it wasn't really going anywhere so I gave up after a half-dozen chapters. But that's how I feel about most slice-of-life style stories so YMMV. It's well drawn and unique so fans of fantasy and relaxed storytelling might want to give it a shot.

Faraway Paladin- I couldn't get into this one. I'm not sure exactly what, but something was just off about it. Might have been the translation.

100 Girlfriends- Nope. Japanese humor is rarely funny to me. Constant slapstick with no room to breath and breaking the fourth wall multiple times before the first chapter was even finished. Gave up about 20 pages in.

In my opinion, explaining WHY they work so well is really hard and delves into major spoiler territory, but if you didn't like them well that happens. Kind of surprised though, I though you'd dig Freiren and Paladin. Wolf I figured you'd say that since it was canned(Why God? Why?) and I 100% expected that about Girlfriends.

The latest, and potentially final, Berserk chapter has started to hit the internet.

Just read it.

It was a roller coaster of emotions. If this is the end then so be it. It was a beautiful work. The art and story had so much passion. Hopefully Guts, Casca, and friends live happily ever after.

Thank you Miura.

FINALLY getting around to watching Attack on Titan. I've put off the manga and anime for years basically in order to binge it when it's done rather than watching it piecemeal.

One question (I only just finished season 1). How did the Survey Corps from the first episode go from basically being cannon fodder where all the shittiest recruits got sent.... to being one of the top end groups in the defensive army? Primarily looking at what Levi has shown he can do in the final episodes of season 1. It's a huge change from being basically used as the show's version of Star Trek's red shirts in episode 1 to being talked about like they're Delta Force or the SEALs.

I just want them to find a way to bring Broly back into the fold even if it's as a tertiary character to the main cast from time to time.

Like, the way that other characters from the Law and Order universe cross over into other branches from time to time (Briscoe showing up for 3 episodes in season 1 of SVU being an example). Broly is one of my favorite characters that for a long time wasn't considered to be canon and now that he is I want him around more.

Hawkins better remember that Zoro almost murked his ass and he let Law sneak up on him too.
The survey corps gets a new commander that doesn’t believe in just mindless attacks
The Giants are powerful and almost immortal but they aren’t smart and have blond spots and or weaknesses

Fairy Tail 100 year Quest just announced to be getting an Anime.

When the series started and the investigation corps came back and they were clearly badly beaten. The dude that gave the arm to the mom or whoever was the officer in charge.
He just attacked all the time and didn’t have an finesse. Erwin charged tactics and when an abnormal giant came at them they’d deal with it. But otherwise they rode around and avoided giants whenever possible. They had flares to signal each other.
Levi was a bad mofo from the start basically. I think him being junior didn’t allow him to go on a wrecking spree all the time.

I started reading The Ride on King.
It's basically what if Putin was transported to another world.
I like it.

The author of KSKM doing an isekai? And the MC is tiger-riding Putin expy who hip-tosses a semi-truck within the first few pages? Ok, I'm sold, I'll give it a try.

The first Fairy Tail anime's ending was basically perfect. I reserved FT a place in my heart forever after that. I hope this one is good! :)

From what I've read its been quite good. But Mashima is really starting to spread himself thin, Edens Zero manga and anime, video games, FT 100 year quest manga and now anime, character design for numerous other games. Dude is going to work himself to death soon.

Insane work hours seems the norm in manga/anime, even for the big names. I wonder if it really is even an option

Hope he doesn't follow the path of his hero, Miura too closely.

Hiro is well known for his insane work ethic, and how quickly he can draw

"Hiro Mashima's drawing speed and production of manga is actually quite well known among those within the manga community. A typical workload for a Weekly Shōnen Magazine manga artist (him included) may be about 20 pages of completed draft, 20 pages of rough drafts, and maybe a colored page. However, this was also the point in time when he was producing a monthly manga called Monster Soul, for which he had illustrated 43 pages of completed drafts, 69 pages of rough drafts, and 4 full-colored pages in a single week. His record is 65 completed pages (3 of which were colored) within one week."
