i mean i don't know how he's surprised by Strickland's style. he's been fighting this way for literally years now. he even fought this way AFTER nearly knocking Adesanya out, which is how the fight went to decision.

someone else mentioned this in another thread, but they were correct. Strickland's right hand is uncoordinated, telegraphed and ugly. he's too slow and stiff to throw his 2 after his 1 which is why he jabs the majority of the fight. when he does throw his right you can see how uncomfortable and forced it is for him.

what they should've been working on, and maybe they do and Strickland just can't do it, is hooking off his jab. especially now that he has access to training with Pereira i figured he'd be able to do that better. or right shoulder feinting to load his left hook. just something that can be dangerous, otherwise guys like DDP will just tank his jab and swarm because they know he doesn't have any meaningful offense that can hurt them.

My theory about this is that Strickland only attacks on favorable openings, and there are only a limited number of favorable openings per round

So if you tell him to increase the pace and push the offense, he'll want to, but then when he doesn't see those favorable openings, then that intended extra offense just won't happen. And if he did unleash more offense by accepting less favorable openings, then he would take way more return damage than he dished out

did he coach him during those camps? Francis got a different boxing coach and worked mostly with dewey cooper, eric said he showed up in the final 2 weeks to just be there for him as a friend, not as a coach. There's not much eric could help francis with in terms of boxing anyway lol

Plus that amount of money is completely different. That's 10 mil anyone takes that fight against aj. Pantoja would box aj for 10 mil.

I think when you do something for 10 years straight and find success, it becomes extremely difficult to change your habits. It's instinctually by that point.

Seans played his final (beating Izzy and winning the title) he's living a good life and made some cash. I honestly think his burning desire to prove too himself and the world that he's worth a damn has fizzled. His general happiness is his worst enemy when it comes to fighting. Maybe Sean didn't do much, but he didn't get done much to him either. 25 pro fights, DDP has gone to a decision only 3 times and 2 of those are Strickland fights. Alex is the only one Sean couldn't defuse. It's still fascinating to me, Sean's style. If this is the downfall of Sean, then fair enough, but you all really think anyone in the TOP 15 isn't going to a decision with Sean? Maybe Khamzat won't, but the rest are getting taken to jab city.

Yeah and coach sounds like he's harboring more than just what he's saying here. Seems very weird to bury your guy like this out in public. Unless they've had this exact conversation in real life and Sean's cool with it and expected coach to yap it further for the masses - it's a fucking weird look.

well at least rose wasn't throwing because Esparza was like a female Sherk. It happens when it comes to strikers vs wrestlers. And Rose threw more significant strikes than Esparza too. Not to mention I think rose got robbed.

And above all, Rose wasn't talking mad shit, fight to death, acting the toughest guy around either then fight like a b*tch.

Rose keeps it real, and you gotta respect that. She comes to fight too. Against a wrestler who doesn't throw much strikes, it can be tough to let your hands go.

Strickland always fights like that. Thing is, he couldn't find as many openings as he usually does because DDP got better. Strickland's defense also seemed at tad worse. Had nothing to do with "not showing up".

I guarantee that you did not see this "fight" then as absolutely none of what you said applies to how Rose actually looked.

She did not come to fight, she ran from Carla like she was holding a machete the entire time, she stomped around the octagon yelling like she got a KO win when in reality we just saw 5 rounds of freeze tag, she flipped out and claimed she won and was a total dick to Carla, she had Pat Barry give coked out interviews bragging about how she "followed the gameplan perfectly", and then she went into hiding for a year and a half contemplating retirement.

Rose was once a respectable fighter but Pat Barry has completely ruined her career/likely her life and she has absolutely blown whatever good will she once had.

I agree with everything you said about Strickland but at least he ate some shots. At least he didn't claim that he won. He is definitely done as a title contender and can never be taken seriously again but Rose should have had a psych evaluation immediately after her performance. She is seriously unwell
