i mean i don't know how he's surprised by Strickland's style. he's been fighting this way for literally years now. he even fought this way AFTER nearly knocking Adesanya out, which is how the fight went to decision.
someone else mentioned this in another thread, but they were correct. Strickland's right hand is uncoordinated, telegraphed and ugly. he's too slow and stiff to throw his 2 after his 1 which is why he jabs the majority of the fight. when he does throw his right you can see how uncomfortable and forced it is for him.
what they should've been working on, and maybe they do and Strickland just can't do it, is hooking off his jab. especially now that he has access to training with Pereira i figured he'd be able to do that better. or right shoulder feinting to load his left hook. just something that can be dangerous, otherwise guys like DDP will just tank his jab and swarm because they know he doesn't have any meaningful offense that can hurt them.
