Do you consider Eric Nicksick an "elite coach"?

Yes, I do like his cornering I have to say. Far too often I'm hearing, 'punch his face', 'you're two up', :you're getting hit too often', 'go forward'. F:ucking punch him!!'.

Nicksick seems to offer some actual tactical advice from seeing how the round went for his fighter.

Tbh I think he just got lucky with the fighters he picked up. I don't think he's that elite of a coach. Those guys could have been champs at any quality gym.

For the work he did with Strickland against Adesanya and with Ngannou vs Fury I think Nicksick should be acknowledged as one of the best striking coaches around.

He was the kid's BJJ class instructor. I don't even think he has a striking background. Francis trains with Dewey Cooper for striking.

Take Nicksick out of this fight Loss -- then also take Nicksick out of Sean's Title victory.

Preparation mentally, physically, skillset, battle plan, adjustments, etc is on the Team.

Strickland reset his Nose and kept fighting a beast -- you should be able to build on that kind of toughness --

But if they need to separate because that Team can no longer be effective at the highest level -- then shake hands and be done with it.

the only advice he ever gave Sean was "You're losing, you have to throw more."

By that poinnt that was all he could say, sean was doing nothing and being "technical" with advice was pointless. He just needed sean to throw something.

There was a time a few years ago when Eric was looked at as an upcoming coach, even winning coach of the year in 2020. 3 fighters under his tutelage have won the title, which usually points towards a successful, good coach. However, with hindsight, we can breakdown his coaching career further.

His 3 champions are Francis, Aljamain, Strickland. I think Francis would have grabbed the belt regardless of who he was training with. Aljamain won the title via DQ, then a close split decision before losing it to O'malley via Tim Welch simply saying "you gotta go aljo." Strickland beat Izzy almost solely due to the giant shot in the first round and Sean learning how to check leg kicks with Poatan, Nick didn't seem to have much to do with that fight.

Last night, watching Strickland/DDP 2, the only advice he ever gave Sean was "You're losing, you have to throw more." While the fight is mostly on Strickland for being one dimensional, an utter lack of actual technical advice in the corner (He keeps backing you up, circle out; when he bum rushes into a clinch exit with an elbow, throw anything besides a fucking 1-2 teep) certainly didn't help Sean's prospects of winning.

Just some of my thoughts on Nicksick, what do you guys think? Am I just a hater?

I don't even really like the guy because of his recent statements he made in public. But this is a stupid nitpicking post, exactly the same way some people make about fighters' entire career discrediting all of their wins.

Also Francis made some very good improvements in the second Stipe fight wich has to be credited to the ones who coached him, because he damn sure didn't learn the boxing techniques or TDD by watching Youtube.

And anyone who can make Strickland champion from being a career journeyman, and doing it against a top 3 All Time great MW who was still close to his prime, was pretty amazing too. I remember a time where you would be laughed at if you claimed one day Sean smacks Adesanya around and takes the belt by force.

Has he coached anyone to championship?

Did he coach any champions?

Or was he only coaching elites, on the level?

Thing is when you're elite you just need managing in the right way. Like National team coaches for whatever sport. I think he gives off a good vibe generally. Not a fan of him criticising Strickland ik public the way he did though.
