St. Louis minimum wage will drop from $10 to $7.70

Except the recent Obamacare mandates for business to ALSO cover insurance for all employees AS WELL as pay them more money, have changed the way part time businesses operate.

So? What does that have to do with wages?

The ACA didn't say "you need to provide insurance to employees making 20k a year, but not those making 15k a year." The cuts in hours attributable to that have occurred independent of wage reform.

Nice deflection.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the results in Seattle given it was such a dramatic shift. It seemed pretty obvious at the time that ~$13 would have been a sweeter spot, but of course it was as much a political virtue signaling as it was an earnest attempt at sensible policy.
You're "happy" that the increase to minimum wage in Seattle hurt minimum wage workers in Seattle?

What the fuck is wrong with you Communists? You never stop smiling. People can be rioting in the streets-- commandeering your helicopters and dropping grenades on your Capitol buildings-- yet you don't stop smiling and waving at the cameras while insisting, "Everything we are doing is working perfectly! Communism is brilliant! Nothing is wrong, that's a Capitalist lie...and if anything is wrong it is certainly the fault of the Capitalist swine!!"

Do you have a mental illness?

Not every can sell and not everyone can wait on commission.

Whats going to happen is it will flush dangerous people from an already dangerous city (top 10 in america)
into other metropplitan areas.

A domestic version of what we have in the middle east...refugees fleeing poor decisions by american government.

I remember all the refugees that fled from katrina....houstons crime rate went up around 6% in just a few months.

Well, at least we will have a test case to compare to Seattle.

Apparently not. A poster in here informed me that the heightened wage was only in effect for two weeks.

What's next? Bring back slavery?

I work 40 hours a week at like 3 cents under $17 an hour and even I am thinking about getting a second job as either a bouncer again or maybe 2 part time jobs in addition to my full time job. Ugh.

FUCK having 37% of my goddamn check being taxed out.

The fact that I am a "white collar" worker as in I have to wear a suit to work every day... but still end up eating Ramen noodles, Easy mac, bacon, and scrounging leftovers once in awhile from the parentals across town is fucking infuriating.

WA state's cost of living is fucking retarded.
Shit try California's cost of living....The retards at SEIU increased the minimum wage for fast food workers, but do you think they negotiated anything for us working professionals? Fuck no. Now everything costs more, and the difference between what burger flippers and what I make doing a job that requires a lot of brain power isnt much.

I'd be in the same position if WA ever blanket changed minimum wage to $15 an hour without those of us above that also getting a bump.

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont recent studies in Seattle suggest that on average workers are losing pay due to the increase of minimum wage? Less hours, less new hires.

Sidenote. I was in East St Louis 20 years ago (it's probably changed by now) but holy s*** that was the worst ghetto I think I've ever come across my life. The White Castle we went to had bars where you ordered your food. And everyone seemed to have just ran out of gas...ahhhh memories.

East St Louis is part of Illinois, which means they're more fucked that St. Louis. And it's exactly as you remember but there's a Walgreens.

Amen

Man this thread is a clusterfuck of finger pointing.

Anyone have actual answers as to what can be done about overtaxing (i.e. income tax, property tax so on) and inflation?

Seems to me if the government -on both sides- wasn't mismanaging what it actually got in taxes and wasn't so invested on keeping people divided we might be able to MAGA like motherfucking bandits here.

These guys don't care about actual results and they don't care about the poor at all.

Raising the minimum wage has had mixed results. I'd expect the same from lowering it, but it is certainly an interesting experiment.

Really? I thought that's exactly why Roosevelt made the minimum wage. So that a person could make it on their own.

Thats exactly what it was supposed to be.
“No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.”- FDR

FDR also threw people in internment camps since he's being used as the voice of reason today

During a war of total annihilation.

At least we didn't gas them like your idol would have.
No, but you took property from families that had owned it for a decade or more and never returned it. And by property I mean like REAL property like a land and house not just chairs and clothes and shit.

not to mention they were citizens not soldiers

The government has the right to seize land in a time of war, and well pretty much whenever they feel like it, eminent domain, etc.

We also said sorry and paid them reparations, what else do you want us to do?

You all have no problem with eminent domain for the Keystone fucking pipeline, but suddenly it's an issue with dealing with 1st or 2nd generation immigrants from the most hostile nation conquering imperial rape machine the world has ever seen in a war of total annihilation.

Besides, this is a shitty argument. Just because FDR was a racist prick to the Japanese like 99% of everyone else in the entire world at the time, doesn't invalidate everything he did for this country and the entire planet.

Presentism, etc

You all suck.

Point isn't about that dark part of our history where our own citizens were treated worse than the thousands of German POWs in prison camps on American soil. Shameful.

But, I always like to change the subject when I'm wrong about something and have been corrected.
