So Kron Gracie just quit?

I think overall you are agreeing with me.

Forget specific tastes for a minute, the larger point is so long as the UFC is paying someone as world famous and talented as Kron an embarrassing 27k to fight live on ESPN, its going to keep suitably young and talented athletes out of the sport.

You have to be completely out of options to want to trade brain damage for pay that low.
I just mean that I don’t think he’s really that famous. The Grappling is not popular at all and the Gracie name is barely a thing anymore either.

I see a lot of people talking bullshit about the gracie family. I would love to watch these board warriors do it live tho
No wonder why some ppl get their asses whooped every now and then
Deal

Just like his father, ran from the sport mid career

From afar, my gut feeling is that he was never *that* into MMA and probably felt extreme pressure to compete as a function of being his father's son and representing his generation for the family. I think he truly desires to simply live a more peaceful life working with his BJJ and other pursuits.

I could definitely be wrong though. I don't know the guy personally or anything.

There is no pressure whatsoever for the Gracies to compete. Anybody from that lineage can set up shop and make good money exploiting the family name to teach BJJ.

Neiman is the best Gracie anyways, Kron was super overrated and overhyped, and he's only getting older.

He moved, started a new academy, is enjoying his new living location, and at 6:12 he addresses his next UFC fight, you lazy, fucks.

Since no other lazy fuck like me gave a cliff I got ya. Says he's focusing on the gym for a few months to get it established and then wants to start a fight camp. Says UFC has been offering him fights the whole time.

I'd love Kron vs Hall to see who's gonna be more than the BJJ guy.

Lets contextualize it... there are ~500 fighters signed to the UFC roster. Do you think Kron is among the top 50 most recognizable names in 2019? That would put him in the top 10% of name value that year.

As a practical matter, use the search function on this forum to see how many threads were started in 2018/2019 with Kron in the subject. Then try to index that against any other featherweights that year. I think you'll find Kron is most definitely popular within the context of existing fans and of interest to those in the grappling world who casually follow MMA.

Asking a world champion, famous grappler with a solid following to fight live on PPV or on ESPN for 27k is bullshit.

There are a ton of guys sitting out or teaching high school gym because the UFC risk -vs- reward pay scale is completely out of wack.

Again, I can definitely agree that fighter pay is trash, and think it’s great when guys like Kron have other options to be like “naw.”

I do think it’s important to contextualize. Maybe you could declare that Kron is one of the top 10% most popular fighters, but if you look at the indicators in regards to what matters (does he create revenue for the UFC?), I don’t think there’s much indication that he’s a big deal. He has a fraction of the social media followers (order of magnitude) as someone like Stipe who is retarded by the brass as PPV poison.

I don't think he enjoys fighting very much, and he clearly isn't good enough to become champ so why not just chill and make money off your gym?

That's true he has always had a great backup option, but he has talked about how much pressure was on him to compete

He won ADCC, had a good MMA career... I think he's satisfied with what he's done

I said he's probably in the top 50 most recognizable names of 500, in 2019. That is a pretty fair statement, would you agree?

Its a whole different story to say he's not as popular as the literal long defending heavyweight champion of the world. Stipe should be making millions per fight.

27k guaranteed money is completely out of wack for Kron, who has 300k followers on Instgram despite never posting. Use the search function on this site to see how many threads appear with his name in the subject. He is demonstrably popular here, compared to the other 500 of his peers.

Cheers
