The arrogance in their attitude are very apparent. they love hiring escorts and drink till they puke, despite appearing to be devout muslims when they go back home. I have read many articles on human trafficking in the Gulf, and in an awfull lot of cases the poor expat workers are tricked and lied to by the middlemen and sponsors who facilitate their employment.

Some are ignorant of the level of risk.

Some know there is a high chance of them being treated like shit but they are soo desperate to feed their family that they have no choice. It's like poor Mexicans who die trying to cross the border; some may not know the level of risk but even the ones who know how riskig it is are soo desperate they will take the risk.

I think they're ignorant to it, like you say. Most of the world is let alone some poor people who have to go from east asia to Saudi Arabia to make a living.

In '91 when I was in Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm, they were all over; they ran all sorts of concessions from fast food to bootlegged music albums.

Just about all of the serious scut work in SA is done by foreign laborers, typically from places the Phillipines, Jordan, and Yemen. Most of the actual citizens never lift anything heavier than cash.

After all, the Saudis didn't get themselves hip-deep in petrochemical swag just so they could work for a living.

McLean, VA-- located in a county adjacent to mine-- is home to a hell of a lot pro athletes, politicians, and influential political players. Among them are a number of Saudi bigshots, members of the extended royal family who use their (rather impressive) cribs to host parties and mixers where political insiders schmooze and peddle influence.

Several years ago, the wife of one of these guys who (I think) was a princess in the House of Saud got pissed off at "the help" and kicked a Filipino maid down a flight of stairs; if you've seen some of the homes in McLean, then you know what a long way down that can be.

For all the outrage and indignation that erupted when the incident went public, I don't think anyone did fuck-all about it. And why not? Because people connected the way she was are untouchable even *without* diplomatic immunity.

Personally, I blame the dinosaurs. If those stupid giant reptiles hadn't died, become fossilized, and then allowed themselves to be converted into petroleum as a result of being acted upon by millions of years of natural and geologic forces, then there's no way that Saudis would've been able to acquire the means to build a modern industrialized country where they could beat up Filipino guest workers and dump boiling water on them with impunity.

I saw quite a few of them in Japan...mostly bar girls. But there were others in various gigs.

The US Navy used to be a major employer of Filipinos; perhaps the single largest employer at one time.

If you can some old salt who can remember at least back to the '50s and '60s, they can likely tell you about the Filipino orderlies working in the ships' ward rooms and galley area; the skipper of the boat often had several assigned to him.

The US Naval Academy in Annapolis used to have lots of Filipinos working in Midshipman's mess hall as well as the kitchen. If I recall, ex-Senator/forme Marine/USNA alum James Webb references this in his book "A Sense of Honor," which was set in Annapolis during the Vietnam War. I read it eons ago during my senior years in high school; I got it from my older brother, who was a Mid then (Class of '88).

I used to work for a healthcare staffing agency and we had a bunch of filipinos working for us. They were by far our most empathetic and easygoing employees.

As for Saudis, I've heard things from others that are consistent with what was said in here. One thing I will add is something that was told me by a cute Bahrainian girl I was seeing. She was being overly cautious about my reaction so I felt she downplayed it quite a bit. But she told me, essentially, that since Saudis can't drink alcohol in their countries, they go to neighboring places like Bahrain or Kuwait and just tear these places up. They insult those who serve them, drink like fish, and then try to screw as many women as they can and don't use protection. I can tell she was holding back of saying more and it didn't sit well with me at the time. I try to be open minded about other cultures but it's hard when it comes to Saudis because I have literally not heard one good thing about their society.

I have seen them in action lol They spend like crazy though so no one bitches about
