You guys are making an assumption that Dana knew that was the reason. People are making assumptions on all sides. If she doesn't want the title fight right now for personal reasons then she'll most likely be next in line when she's ready for it. That's why sometimes public statements are necessary so it isn't filled with assumptions across the board. Especially with both sides saying 2 different things about the fight. They could've easily said they aren't taking the fight for personal reasons like other fighters do.

even though some posters may think this is callous and horrible to say its the truth. her grandparents are likely 80-90s and eventually will die and often suddenly by heart attack/stroke. its not like her husband or dad/mom died. look at a fighter like khabib whose dad who was very much still active and the primary coach of khabib dying at the age of 57. khabib only delayed his fight by one month with gaethje and put on one of this most dominating performances. staman fought shortly after his younger brother died and won. lots of athletes play games in the nfl/nba after losing loved ones and put up phenomenal performances.

honestly if rose is not 100% mentally there, i'd much rather see Joanna rematch Zhang than see Rose get wrecked again. Rose has little to no chance to win a 5 round fight not only because of the lack of mental toughness but she is physically weak and wore down twice later in the rounds against Andrade, same thing would happen with Zhang.

All kidding aside . Hear me out . A lot of ppl seem to be forgetting that she endured the loss of loved ones before her grandfather. Add to which he was a wrestler and probably had an influence on her becoming a fighter .

Now i am going to extend an olive branch and concede to something. I don't like Khabib. But i will state for the record now I am a huge Gaethje fan and i have alot of respect for the way Khabib came out and took care of business afyer losing his father. I remember remarking to my gf before the fight i thought it would play against Khabib.

That being said... Rose is a woman and Kahabib was a man raised in a different environment. He is mentally stronger. But Rose is great and has given us some great fights win or lose.

And i will state now on my children's eyes if Khabib had postponed in the passing of his father i would never give him shit for that.

They asked him a question about the fight. He just stated his opinion from the information he has. People aren't mind readers.

They took the time to clear it up, but just put fake news and no real info and even now it's just assumptions about the fight since Rose or Pat isn't really saying anything about the title situation and they aren't really campaigning for it at the moment. So until we get direct word from them people will stick with their assumptions and the fight with Esparza will most likely take place instead of Rose.
