the whole MAGA-meds UncleCry'ev coverage has become super ridiculous
The fight is scheduled for March 8, which is during Ramadan. I don’t know if Magomed will keep his religious gimmick. But I do know one thing — Pereira has absolutely no reason to care whether the date is convenient for his opponent or not. I generally have the feeling that some people do not understand how fights are organized in UFC. UFC 313 is planned for March 8. There are less than two months left, and there are still no headliners. They don't need just a fight between Pereira and Ankalaev on any date; they need headliners specifically for March 8. Naturally, the main headliner was offered to be Alex Pereira. He is the reigning champion, who has saved the league several times. Now the league is giving him an acceptable date for a title defense. Next, they reach out to Ankalaev. Either he accepts the fight on March 8, or the fight goes to someone else. That’s how this business works.
Neither the UFC nor Pereira should be interested in what kind of a religious fanatic is UncleCry'ev. MAGAahmed signed a contract with a private company that entertains people year around. And a fighter if not injured should be ready for an important fight on an inconvenient date. Ramadan is solely Peacefulmuslimaev's problem. He can follow his fetish or not. It’s his personal relationship with his religion.
Enough already with shifting Ankalaev's personal problems onto Pereira or the UFC. If religion is above sports, then why he fights half-naked for money and entertainment in front of the world in a cage filled with logos of alcohol brands and betting, having half-naked women around? It somehow doesn’t align with the fundamental moral principles Analconclave tries to worship during Ramdandan.
Mage-or-meds has no other choice. He is not social media superstar and stylistically a bit boring for the audience, and to be honest, he is dangerous for the UFC's cash cow Pereira. Therefore, no one will arrange a fight for him based on his personal wishes. It’s good for MAGAmeds that they even sent him a contract instead of lets say someone like Ulberg.
Understand, it’s a regular thing when a champion - an upper hand dictates their terms. Moreover, this isn’t even Pereira’s personal desire, but a necessity to fill a gap in an important tournament. UncleCry'ev is not in a position to refuse cry. In fact, he understood this and did not refuse cry.
What remains is to convey this simple thought to the fans. The UFC is respectful of the fighter's religions (when it actually has no reason for it), but no one will place their religious preferences above their own business interests. And that’s absolutely fair.
