The worst part is this is probably just the beginning. If they do see a massive uptick in Paramount+ subscriptions due to the UFC, they will likely raise their prices even further, until they start losing too many subscribers.

If this turns out to be a success, I'll be shocked if it takes them 2 years to raise the subscription price.

Yeah I was excited about this at first but I will continue to just pirate the product. Here in Canada it's not available and id have to subscribe some sports package that includes a bunch of sports where goofs in matching outfits play with a ball, then the PPVs are still 80 dollars

I cant believe the UFC expects canada to be the ONLY country buying ppv in 2026 they really do hate us fans here. Probably just because of dana hating gsp too.

I won't complain because anything is better than paying $80 for a PPV, the price was absurd and disgusting, just think they usually do 12 PPVs a year and sometimes its been 13 PPVs a year, 13x80 = big fat $$$$$$$$$$$$ , it really adds up over time. At least we will have an end to that, I remember buying UFC 40 PPV for $20.95 and you got 5% off if you ordered it 24 hours or longer before the day of the event, now its gone up to $80 and $89.99 for some special 4K thing. Its unreal.

I'm sure Paramount won't be perfect and I heard sometimes the streams are choppy etc, I dunno but anything beats the 80 per month for a PPV.

Was UFC the last major event holder consistently doing PPV? Seems once Floyd may weather retired, boxing PPV went out the window and with UFC moving to the “free” model, PPV seems doomed

You really think so? As a kid growing up and not watching a lot of professional wrestling, I knew Stone Cold way before I heard of The Rock.

The Rock is one of the biggest movie stars in hollywood. Austin isn't touching that. He's a big name in pro-wrestling and that's for the most part, where it ends.

I will also argue til the day I day that all-time, Hogan > Austin in pro-wrestling. Longevity at the top matters and Hogan spent like 3x there being relevant as THE GUY.

Streaming services are doing the exact thing that made people switch from cable to them.

Most people probably don't even realize that they're paying way more now than when they had cable or satellite. You now have some sort of streaming TV service (Sling, Hulu, YouTube TV, etc...), then on top of that you have at least another half a dozen streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Paramount+, Disney+, Peacock, AppleTV). It never ends. And all these services are steadily increasing prices. If you set down and do the math, you realize you're spending well over $200 a month in all this crap.

We're all well aware of streaming sites these days, which are better than ever for content now that everything's released digitally anyways. People pay for things like the convenience of the "auto plays next episode" feature. Nobody wants to routinely have to get up, close your finished movie/episode, click on the next one, and re-cast things to your TV all over again.

Instead you pay $8 to not have to do that for a month. Which yeah, not too bad so long as you don't let all these various subscriptions get out of control. Paying hundreds of dollars to be lazy is stupid, whether you can afford it or not.

Also but good luck dating without Netflix or something. Your date will clam up and be out of your apartment in no time if you tell her to sit there while you fire up your laptop and find a stream of something to cast or HDMI cord to your TV instead of just opening up Netflix. Months down the road into a relationship she won't care but someone you don't know well will absolutely laugh at this and find it embarrassing.

I live in Canada, too, so I understand the feeling. But it's not the UFC's decisions at the moment. They have a contract with Rogers, signed years ago, and they can't just abrogate it. But Paramount+ has said that they're interested in obtaining the streaming rights in other countries, once they become available. In the meantime, an American Paramount+ gift card so I can register an American account, and a VPN is what I'll be doing. I already subscribe to a VPN, so it won't cost me any extra, but even if you don't already, you can get one for $60/year. So, even with the cost of Paramount+ on top of that, you're still getting it for around the cost of 2 PPVs.

Instead of paying any subscription fees for basic or premium, I just started inviting my neighbors over to watch UFC and getting into fist fights with them.
