Xbox Official Xbox thread

But some do. You're so determined to dislike the superior, more versatile engineering design that you're projecting your own subjective habits onto the assessment.

You're also ignoring what I've pointed out about the degradation of the battery life over time. This is why many opt to buy new controllers after only a few years.

Not only is degradation unavoidable, but any failure at multiple points in the system requires a new $60 controller. Sometimes batteries fail, sometimes ports fail. None of the value is carried over, either. Sometimes a joystick gets stuck. So you buy a new controller. With the Xbox design, all of your battery doors and charging stands interface with the new controller. You may also find used controllers on the cheap because they come without any battery door, but otherwise work perfectly fine.

The assembly line model rose to dominance because it is superior.

I’m not ignoring anything, do you even realise I never even mentioned anything about longevity or versatility, never mentioned Sony or anyone else.

MS need to include a rechargeable solution with the controller if they want to go this route.

As it is you cannot buy an Xbox for the first time and game for years to come without spending extra on some sort of batteries.

And no everybody doesn’t have several battery packs or loads of rechargeable batteries on stand by.

That was my original post, you just went on a massive deflection rant.

It works exactly the same as the PS5 if you want it to.
For an additional $30 it does.

Play and Charge is great, but I was basically forced to buy it to make it a modern device.

Yea I never understood the batteries with Xbox controllers. The only benefit to me was I could quickly turn off the controller by popping the batteries out.

I keep two controllers and I’ve never had issues with charging and all of that. I also have 4-5 hour play sessions. Just change controllers and be done with it.

It's just one less stuff to break.

A perfectly reasonable solution. Costs $60, though, so this solution is more expensive than potential XSX solutions that make the controller both rechargeable, and perpetually wireless.
Nice but MS should just include this with the controller if it’s so cheap. Then let people decide if they want to switch to batteries and all that.
They supply 2xAA batteries. Some people regularly buy AA batteries. Some already have rechargeable batteries. They're an incredibly common item that many devices use (like flashlights). If they included it with the controller they would ultimately have to pass on that cost to these consumers who may not require it.

But okay. I guess we'll count that $10 premium against the roughly +$300 in hardware value of the XSX vs. the PS5.

Yea I get it. It’s just something I’ve never had an issue with. I’d rather the convenience of Sonys controllers. Which is fine you can buy the equipment mick linked so it’s not some major issue.

I actually didn’t even know this was something they had. It wasn’t some major issue in my life that I was looking to solve though. I ordered a shitload of AA batteries from amazon and called it a day. Once I run through those batteries I’m going to get one of those rechargeable packs.

This.

I do not mind the fact that that Xbox is giving you so many options to charge this controller but was it that important to do this? This is what they cared about the most when updating a new controller for the system? Sticking with rechargeable battery is meh... I love the fact that all I need to do is unplug my 2nd controller, then plug the first one that was about to die, hit the power button on the 2nd controller, activate it and resume gaming. That's it. That's all I needed. I had rechargeable batteries and it was a hassle when I owned the older Xbox(s). hated that feature.

As for reliability. Out of ALL the PS controllers I've ever owned (and that's quite a lot) only one broke on me (PS4 due to charging issue actually). But apart from that they've all been rock solid and the 2 leftover PS4 controllers can last more than 6+ hours of gaming still without a charge. As a matter of fact one of them lasted more than 12 hours (must be the newer one with the PS Pro I bought several years ago). I am also someone who doesn't abuse their controller like some of you animals have admitted in other threads so maybe that's why my controllers all last longer than usual...

Here's the thing.
Both controllers will be usable on PC. I've never connected either the PS or Xbox controller to a PC but whatever... They're both useable so that's a wash in my eyes.
Xbox Series X owners are going to be bragging about multiple charging options for their new controllers. PS5 are going to be bragging about Haptic feedback. Why do I care about multiple charging options? It's like... uuuuhhh… okay... I don't care. My current option has been solid. I want newer tech on my newer controller. It's not super exciting but it's something. Definitely worth more to me than the ability to charge a controller in different ways.

Lol at buying third party junk. Rocket fish is terrible.
"Rocketfish" is one word. Strange that you messed that up considering you forwarded such a strong opinion, and a search reveals you have never before mentioned it on the board.

Best Buy is showing a 4.5* review average.

Almost like auto correct is a thing lol.

I worked at Best Buy for two years in college, numbnuts. The return rate on their junk was higher than any of the name brand stuff we carried.

Let’s be real, most people are buying the Microsoft branded battery pack.

The only justifiable reason to not include a rechargeable battery should be to lower cost yet their controllers are still on par with Sony’s. (In before MadDick posts a MadKatz controller to dispute that).

It’s a nonsense business decision in 2020. I can’t wait to see Apple’s new hand crank option for charging my iPhone 12.

Weird that autocorrect didn't autocorrect "auto correct" to a single word. You're not someone whose testimony I trust in these matters.

I think what they cared about most was giving the consumer the choice of how he wants his controller to work.

I think what they cared about second most with the controller was the ability to use the new controllers on the previous console, use the previous console's controllers on the new console, and interchange accessories between the two. Xbox One owners who already have battery doors and AA-battery setups are probably quite happy to have a controller with superior independence from the console, and superior longevity at no additional cost.

A more distant priority was compatibility with other platforms via Bluetooth. Their controller can work with PCs, Macs, iPhones/iPads, or Android out-of-the-box. Still not seeing anything about that for the PS5 controller.

Also, the PS5 controller is $70:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-p...e-wireless-controller/6430163.p?skuId=6430163

The XSX controller is $60:

So, @method115, I was wrong, with that Rocketfish pack, there is no premium. Sony is already passing on the cost to the customer!

It’s such an unreasonable point of view to include rechargeable batteries that nobody can make a coherent argument as to why not.

And people pointing out how cheap options are, well they’re simply reinforcing that it should be included.

The XSX controller is $10 cheaper. Unnecessary inclusions certainly contribute to this. Many people (even those without game consoles) already have rechargeable AA batteries and battery stations.

I believe I'm repeating myself.

I mean you keep on mention all these charging options and I simply "shrug" and go.. okay... It means nothing to me.

The PS4 controller can connect to PC, Macs, iPhone/Ipads and androids via Bluetooth. I never had a reason to do it but a quick search shows me instructions that are childishly simple.

If this will work with the PS4 controller then it will eventually work with PS5. Even if its not at launch it will eventually work.

It can be quite messy on systems like Android depending on the phone/tablet, and sometimes required a corded connection. The PS4 controller is also not compatible with the PS5. There is no reason to assume functionality of the PS5 controller is assured based on the DS4.

Incorrect. PS4 controller is compatible with PS5 if you are playing PS4 games.
