Aaand i just discovered after probably half a dozen hours that there’s sub missions and a travel system to get back to the main hub. Went like three levels without leveling up my weapons.

I just can't figure out the timing with this first boss's major attacks. I think coming straight from Sekiro is messing me up

At least in the first phase of the fight, I found that it felt like you had to delay your parries ever so slightly(like a millisecond after you think the attack would hit) . It's definitely not as tight as Sekiro in that regard. Also, be aggressive in between parries. The break meter doesn't build like it does in Sekiro, and don't expect him to lay off for room to heal, either. He'll just keep coming, but his attacks can be interrupted pretty easily.

I'm just not getting it. Dodge and parry being the same button seems a like an insurmountable adjustment after 60hrs in Sekiro

I actually didn’t have a follower that entire level. Got to fight him and have to agree, it was pretty fantastic. Took me a good amount of tries because he’s so punishing but it never felt cheap and I definitely came away a better player.

Yea, he also took me a while to get down. It wasn't until I realized that I was getting too greedy and only needed 1 hit during his normal attacks. I was also Moral Rank 17 the entire time fighting him. Overall, fun boss battle.

I literally found this out the other day as well and went back and cleaned up everything. It got me to level 37 and the next main stage is recommended to be level 47. Fun times.

The first stage you can just bum rush him pretty much the entire time. In the second stage you want to stay in a medium range. Everything in this game can be dodged. That includes his spikes that come out of the ground. You don't even need to deplete his health to 0, once you see your spirit animal gauge fill up, fire it off and the fight is done.

That was a nice nod to Nioh 1 first boss

Wait what? Sounds like we’re at pretty similar points in the game and I’m just now clearing the sub-missions at level 43.

I honestly don't even know what level I'm on. I just beat a gimmick boss that was ridiculously easy though. I think now I'm at level 43 rocking a glass cannon build with my Dual Halberds.

I finally found some Tiger Halberds from a boss that were an upgrade after playing basically the entire game with one of the first sets I found lol.

I’m also noticing that I get a ton of loot but almost nothing is worth upgrading. I’m still rocking most of the preorder bonus gear and I’m like halfway through the game.

So is this Romance of the Three Kingdoms as a dark souls esque arpg?

I platinumed Elden Ring last year and need something new to scratch the itch.

How is it on PC?

Are there multiple playable historical characters? Like can you unlock or play as Lu Bu, Guan Yu, etc?

Got Lu Bu down after many attempts. I was using a spear upgraded +5 that I found and it still took a long time. Dude had to be staggered like five to six times which was like double previous boss fights. Still a great fight and it definitely forces you to be a better player. And no I didn’t use reinforcements. I only use reinforcements when the story portion makes you

I'm pretty much doing the same thing. I rolled 3 star duals with the old dude in the shed and upgraded those. For the level after Lu Bu, I hit the reset and went Water with dual swords. I love the Halderds, but their weapon arts can be ass. I really need a 4-star.

I believe it is, but I'm not 100% sure. It does have all of the famous people.

I've heard it's bad but it could have been patched.

You're essentially a tarnished, but you run into those people. Sometimes not on the same team.

Ah ok, so you're a no name and the names aren't playable?

Do they have battlefield levels where you're running around with a squad like the old dynasty warriors games or is it mostly solo?

Pretty much. Your companions change based on the level (game level, not power level). As your moral increases so do theirs. So they get stronger as you get stronger. Eventually you can gain favor and become a 'sworn brother' or ally and they'll give you their gear. If you don't heal them in time, they'll leave the battlefield until you check into a battle flag. You can also call them into battle from a battle flag if needed.

To the Wo Long players out here, if someone had never played Sekiro, Ghosts of Tsushima, or Wo Long which one would you recommend doing first?

Hard to say. Sekiro and Wo Long share the most DNA. I think Sekiro’s combat is the most punishing but probably the best implemented out of all of them. There’s no grinding levels or anything in Sekiro so it’s really you and your skill. It’s super crisp and responsive. One of my favorites.

Wo Long relies a lot on parrying as well but so far I’d put it a solid tier below Sekiro. It’s tough but I feel like there are more ways to overcome the challenge. Setting is pretty cool though and a decent change up.

Ghosts of Tsushima is an open world action oriented game. I’ve been told it’s similar to newer Assassin’s Creed titles. Not as tough as the previous games but I thought the story was engaging, the combat was good enough, and I loved just exploring the world on horseback. It’s a really beautiful world.

Sekiro and GoT are both pretty cheap by now so maybe take a shot at one of those. Like I said, hard to say without knowing your gaming preferences.
