NoBodY kNowS aBouT AsPinALL, hE's iRrEleVAnT!

But I'll ask straight out: do you think I'm fine pointing out the silliness of those claiming Aspinall is "a nobody"?

Of course you are. You can make any argument you wish, and people can agree or disagree with your premises.

Sure I get that, but at the same time it's not like Jones is obligated to fight forever. I mean I can understand most people dislike him and want to see him finally get knocked out, but the guy stepped in there against killers like 25 times, he definitely put in his time.

I was never much of a Jones fan, but now that he's almost 40 it's kinda annoying how everyone wants him to always fight that one more guy who will supposedly knock him out. Maybe Tom would, but at this point it wouldn't mean nearly as much considering the guy is old and basically fighting part time.

If he did take the fight, and Tom did beat him, I would see it pretty much like I see Weidman beating Anderson... someone was gonna do it eventually, and that somebody got a lot of help from father time. With that win Tom wouldn't overtake Jon's legacy or anything, just as no one in their right mind considers Weidman a greater fighter than Anderson Silva.

So yeah I get it, a lot of people hate Jones, but for fuck sakes the guy has a right to retire nearing 40 after what, like championship title wins. Funny how no one is this hard on Khabib who retired at 32, with just 3 title defenses.

First...who was the last "one more guy"? Gane did have some believing for sure. Was 42 year old Stipe that hadn't won a fight in 4 and a half years that guy? We can be honest here: Jones isn't obligated to fight anyone, agreed. But also, there hasn't BEEN anyone that's remotely like Aspinall in that they were the betting favorite over Jones because of how they were destroying everyone. Aspinall is unique in that regard, not "the next in a long line of many" like some try to portray.

Also, yes, Jones is obviously free to walk away whenever he wants. But the look is pretty bad when he drags it out a year, then retires and they make Aspinall the undisputed champ...and about 10 minutes after he's scheduled vs Gane...Jones enters back into the testing pool and says "Just kidding, not retired!" Again, is it his right to do that? Of course. But anyone with a brain can see that strongly reinforces that he just wanted zero part of Aspinall.

Fair enough. In this case it's objectively absurd for people to claim he's a "nobody". There are a ton of arguments I make on this forum where disagreement is reasonable. But not this one. It's comically transparent why some decide to disagree on this.

I'll be interested to see how long they cling to that nonsense if Aspinall continues wrecking everyone. (Which is admittedly far from guaranteed).

Well I recall "the guy" was Pavlovich for a moment there when he was destroying everyone, then Tom knocked him out and suddenly the guy is now Tom.

Now Tom is really good, and he certainly looks like the best HW at the moment, but that's a very shallow division and if you really look at his resume and who he's beat it's not all that impressive since every single guy he's beat has been beaten by several other fighters as well.... I mean, Tybura, Pavlovich and Blaydes... who else, Spivac? The zombie of Andrei Arlovski? I guess Volkov is a good win, but again, Volkov has been beaten 11 times.

What is impressive is the finishing rate and how quickly he's getting the wins, but the division is more shallow than it's ever been in the modern era. I don't know if Jones would beat him, but I wouldn't feel at all confident putting any serious amount of money on Tom in that fight.

Let's see how the Gane fight goes.

Tom has been running and ducking Gane for awhile now, we will see how it all plays out

I imagine people like TS well blame Jones for Tom losing becuase of "rust"

Has there ever been more hype behind a fighter that has accomplished less ?
Shane Carwin before he fought Brock. Destroyed a prime Mir and a Gonzaga that was a few fights removed from KOing Cro Cop. He was undefeated, finishing everybody in a minute or 2, then Brock took him to the 2nd round and exposed him for being a one round fighter.

He could dress better… being all cerebral and insightful doesn’t fit the gold chain, t-shirts, and jeans gymbro shit he’s got going on. Calling out a dude saying, “I gawt nuthin against ya personally; I just think I’m better than ya.” Doesn’t sell to the playground-minded idiots that watch this shit now… but I like it.

You gotta be a whore or have a gimmick these days.

You do ?

I don't see alex doing that ...

Meh, it's also about timing. Jones is pushing 40 and he's not gonna fight forever, so regardless of who the top guy at HW is at the time Jones decides to retire, people are gonna say "oh he's ducking that guy".

Maybe, but Tom was the no1 contender for 21 of the 29 months that Jon held the belt, and Jon came back to make a joke title defence a year after Tom had won the interim belt. He hasnt helped himself at all with the way hes handled things, he could have avoided a lot of the heat he got.

9 of Carwins 12 wins are over guys that dont have a Wiki page. He was also a slow flat footed roidhead who was barely 6'0 tall in reality.

Theres a clear difference in their speed, mobility and range.

"Aspinall has already established himself as the most dominant heavyweight in MMA history"

That's a direct quote from the article.

Tom has had a grand 4 fighters at the top.

He's a prospect who is doing well.
Its a reference to his 2 minute average fight time, but i agree it could be wordsd better

He only retired when it was clear he couldn't fight anyone but Tom. He was angling with fights with all kinds of other fighters not called Tom Aspinall.

No amount of lies and obfuscation will change the fact he ran for his life from Tom

Your argument would have weight if retired shortly after beating Stipe. He hung around for ages holding the belt trying to fight anyone but Tom. Ergo your argument is logically invalid and bullshit

Him retiring is absolutely fine. Him saying Aspinall is a nobody, then asking a shitload of money, then retiring, then saying he would fight Pereira? Not really. Either fight or retire.
And btw, I chose Jon to win when the fight vs Aspinall was “a certain thing” according to Dana White.

i agree,

but when compared to jones he is a nobody, and if you were to argue that he is infact a somebody, it would be his proximity to jones that makes it so
Na, it's being interim, it's being Champ, it's his 2 minute average fight time and devastating KO record and highlight real as UFC champ that makes him someone

Some or you approach the entire sport of MMA through a Jon Jones lens. Most do not.
