NoBodY kNowS aBouT AsPinALL, hE's iRrEleVAnT!

I highly doubt having some staffer shit out a fluff piece on their website is prohibitively expensive. Not to mention that no legitimate business would cut off their nose to spite their face like that.

Every tiny space on the front page of a site that gets that kind of traffic has massive value. It's not what it "costs them", it's the value of that space. Promoting their...you know...gazillion other sports they cover AND continue to hold broadcast rights going forward for isn't "cutting off their nose".

Or are you under the impression that ESPN "just couldn't find anything else to put on the website"?

yes, which is why Gane must lose for them, because if he doesn't, Jones would look better.

It's all about jones, It doesn't have to be though, but they make it that way. Just because jones beat Gane doesn't mean that Gane is just some can.

It goes both ways though, probably even more so the other way. A lot of people are desperately hoping Gane derails Tom or makes it competitive so it validates Jon and the duck doesnt stain his legacy as much. Literally hoping a retired fighter benefits at the expense of a current prime fighter who has looked great.

Anyway, taking Jon out of the equation, Gane isnt a can, but he isnt all that great either in a historical context. I think his shortcomings have become more and more clear over time. The Ngannou fight flattered him because it was a good stylistic match up for him.

You talk (type) some absolute shite

Its about Tom and Gane

And the only way some of you will ever be able to enjoy MMA again is if Gane beats a fighter that your hero was too terrified to fight and retired instead

Man your post was dumb nonsense

And how many of those other sports have a significant event coming up this weekend on the company’s premium subscription service?

Or are you under the impression that ESPN "just couldn't find anything else to put on the website"?

How does an honest interlocutor or any well-adjusted individual come up with that based on my post?

"Aspinall has already established himself as the most dominant heavyweight in MMA history"

That's a direct quote from the article.

Tom has had a grand 4 fighters at the top.

He's a prospect who is doing well.

This little niche sports network ESPN or something posting articles about this guy Aspinall? Meh, what the hell is ESPN anyway?

Your keyboard CAPS LOCK key has a fault.
It's sticking frequently.

I'll PayPal you 10dollars so you can get it fixed, if you like.

Yeah I actually read the article now, it's absurd. Imagine thinking Tom is as dominant through his first 9 UFC fights as JDS was?!

JDS was 9-0, went through Werdum, Crocop, Gonzaga, Nelson, Mir, Carwin, Cain....that's already a legendary career resume in his first 9 fights.

Come to think of it, that made me realize a good nickname for Tom: "Prospect Boy".

The first thing that came to mind when reading the article was that the person was likely new to MMA.

The other standout was a lack of research: we aren't in his active career, but we aren't far enough removed from Fedor's legacy that it can be overlooked.

Another possibility is that it's just a writer paid by UFC to do propaganda.

I do actually pretty much agree with you on this. Calling Tom the most dominant HW in MMA history is absurdly hyperbolic, I dont know how anyone who has any knowledge of MMA history could even entertain the thought.

Tom is not a prospect though. You cant still be a prospect when you've won the belt and beaten like half of the top 10. And if he IS a prospect still, how exactly does he move on from that in this current division? who is there for him to beat to prove himself?

Tom has shown no indication he cracks to pressure. Whereas the "narcissistic barbarian" you cite has cracked mentally multiple times. Interesting terrible take.
Tom has never been in this position before. Hence the thread.

Conor has been in even brighter spotlights and has demonstrated an incredible ability to shirk off stress and extreme media attention. He's peaked and met his match while simultaneously becoming one of the richest athletes in prizefighting history and has suffered a leg fracture and through these factors has seen his fighting ability plummet, but this doesn't relate to the point I was making.

Once again, you stumble in to a thread and reply to a post without understanding what is even being said. Like a child, wandering into a movie.

Well...you could literally just take 2 (college football and the NFL) and have a zillion eyeballs and clicks if they didn’t have content about ANY of the other sports they cover since it's the heart of football season. And since they have massive broadcast deals with both that dwarf any UFC deal.

Also, I posed it as a question which you've answered. Great. The entire point of this thread is that I've seen more times on this forum than I can count that "nobody cares about Aspinall". Yet we have the largest sports content provider on earth dedicating space on their front page to him when that space clearly (which you apparently agree with me on) could be used to show other content that generates revenue for the network.

I assumed the intent of this thread was pretty clear...

No promotion of this magnitude has ever done such a TERRIBLE job in maintaining and promoting a HW fighting division like this. In some ways, you'd think they're hoping it dies.

It's an absolute joke how bad the UFC HW division is.

Great, so what important college football or NFL games are happening on ESPN+ this Saturday?

If this guy loses with Gane it is one of the biggest fumbles ever

It seems like UFC is putting the house on Tom, but Gane isn't a pushover.

I expect Tom to win, but wouldn't be surprised if Cyrille pulls it out.

The HW division is just blooming after being in shambles, and they're going to need as much "star power" as they can get.

Gane has had little visibility heading into this fight.

You know Boner is going to talk endless garbo if Gane wins, so hopefully that will shine a light more on Cyrille to help out the division.

Great, so what important college football or NFL games are happening on ESPN+ this Saturday?

Why would it matter if they're on ESPN+ specifically? They provide content via plenty of avenues. But that specific platform is airing nonstop college football games all day Saturday. Define "important"...because those games will all have viewership, or they wouldn't bother airing them.

It's such a weird hill to die on in trying to prove that nobody knows who the HW champ in the UFC is or has any interest in him. This weird justification for a certain someone not wanting to unify. But, to each their own I guess.

This is going to be an interesting fight. Big guys with good movement. I'd say Tom's got more power and is hungrier to prove himself, but he'll be the one under some serious pressure. Gane will never sniff another title shot in the UFC again if he loses this fight, so I do expect to see him a little more aggressive than normal.

Why would it matter if they're on ESPN+ specifically?

Because that’s their premium subscription service that just so happens to be featuring a UFC PPV this Saturday. Businesses tend to try to drive people towards these. Especially when the business is an exclusive broadcast partner with a financial stake in viewership and attention.
