An armed right-wing militia group operating along the U.S.-Mexico border posted several videos to social media this week, including one in which they held about 200 asylum-seeking migrants at gunpoint near Sunland Park, N.M., until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived, according to a report.

The militia group, which calls itself the United Constitutional Patriots, said it is determined to monitor the border until President Trump fulfills his campaign promise of a border wall or until Congress enacts stronger legislation to make it more difficult for migrants to request asylum, Jim Benvie, a spokesman, told The New York Times in a phone interview

“It should go without saying that regular citizens have no authority to arrest or detain anyone,” the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said in a statement to The New York Times, adding that it is “completely unacceptable” that migrants be “menaced or threatened” upon entering the U.S.

The American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement that “the Trump administration’s vile racism” emboldened these groups.

Carlos A. Diaz, a spokesperson for Customs and Border Protection, would not divulge specific details about the scene in the video or about the United Constitutional Patriots, but said in a statement that Border Patrol “does not endorse private groups or organizations taking enforcement matters into their own hands.”

Heh. Private citizens taking shit into their own hands = nothing the ACLU can do about it.

Good job UCP.

What is the legal situation there?

When the law can't handle the situation vigallantees come forth. Which isn't good, but it shows that the govt is clearly not capable of dealing with this border crisis .

Sounds like a regulated militia ensuring the security of their free state to me.

Good. We need more men like that in America. Waiting for politicians to do their job is like waiting for Santa Claus.

They did that as well.
What I want to know is whether they surrendered to the patrolling militia - thinking they were law enforcement or could put them in touch with law enforcement - or whether they were "rounded up and held at gunpoint," in the way that comes to mind when those words are used. If it's the former, then it's not really that different from what has been happening for years. If it's the latter, that's a problem. And if they impersonated law enforcement (which a description of a video seems to say) then that's a problem. They should be investigated by Congress.

A citizen has the right to detain a criminal that's called a citizen arrest.
A governor should know that.

Good. Hope they keep it up. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it also pisses off the typical taint-sniffers who label anyone who opposes illegal immigration as "vile racists", as if they themselves were actually capable of giving a fuck about those people. Logical, reasonable, fair, immigration reform. It's got electrolytes...

It's not so simple, but you know that. You just wanted to belch that post up, because it comforts you.

This is what happens when our dysfunctional government won't uphold the law.

Hundreds of asylum seekers surrendered to an armed militia of New Mexico citizens last night, after trying to cross the U.S. border.

A group of 300 men, women and children gave themselves up to the ‘United Constitutional Patriots’, a gang of vigilantes who claim to be made up of veterans and former police officers, who then handed them over to border officials.

Video recorded by one of the militia, Jim Benvie, who has been camping out on the New Mexico-Chihuahua border for two months, shows the asylum seekers walking on a dirt road having crossed through a fence gap in Sundland Park, New Mexico.

If you lived along the border would you do this or ever support a group that formed to stop illegals?
