BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Felt good to come back home - got in the gym today for some BJJ. Worked on a sacrifice counter to a hip toss - or really any throw where the guy turns his back to you. Then we worked mount control & mount escapes. Lots of specific training, including escaping from mount while being punched. No hard punches, but it definitely adds a different level to the training. 30 minutes of sparring after class. Good times.

Rough night. Just showed up & bled all over the place lol. Neck has been hurting me for a while, its becoming a problem.

Been seriously working my ass off lately. Haven't been able to get to any gym. Working early, late & weekends right now due to some customer issues. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also have some health stuff going on. Although I'm not really overweight, my cholesterol is high, blood pressure is a little high, and Uric Acid levels (gout) are very high. So I'm making some pretty signifiant diet changes, then we re-do bloodwork in a month to see what affect the diet changes have had. So at this point, I'm going like 90% vegetarian, zero beer, and no alcohol at all during the week. Chicken is the best meat for me to eat - shellfish, tuna, red meat etc is pretty bad for me.

Friday was my 1st day on the diet, so I just finished day 4. I'm battling genetics here but hopefully the diet changes will help.

I'm in Washington DC right now for the next 3 days, then Alabama for a day & then home on Friday before driving to Arizona for the weekend.

Did a 5k in 40:00 on the treadmill. Plan to lift again tomorrow.

Worked out in the hotel gym after about a 14 hour day. Little tired, but was otherwise ok.
 
Long time no log. Had some health issues, Blood pressure is high, cholesterol is high, Uric Acid (Gout) is high. Basically all due to genetics. So I've been adjusting the diet to 80-90% vegetarian, lots of veggies & fruit, & no drinking during the week. No beer ever, when I drink its just red wine. Sold the kegerator last week. So I'm losing weight, and that set off a pretty bad gout attack in my shoulder for the past 2 weeks. Sucked Ass. At any rate, I can move it again, although still sore. Got in the gym today basically for some rehab work today. Gonna give jiujitsu a try this week as well. In the long run I think the diet will be good for me, but right now I feel weak as a baby.

Shoulder still bothering me. Was really tough to get set in the middle of the bar. Legs are gonna be shot for the next few days.

BJJ - 1 Hour

Felt so good to get back on the mats. 1 Hour of sparring, conditioning wasn't great, but I survived. Shoulder didn't give me any trouble. Heading to Hawaii next week for work, hopefully I'll have time for some hikes.

I've lost so much strength over the past couple of years due to inconsistency in the gym, that I'm going back to basics & going to really try to get in the gym and lift 3x a week. Since I used to be stronger, I decided why not go to a beginners routine & try to get a baseline of strength back with some linear progression? So we're trying starting strength for a bit. Hopefully I'll be able to balance this with BJJ & get enough nutrition from the low-cholesterol, low uric acid diet.

So what I am getting from this is... you give up beer and drastically cut down your meat intake, and that makes you really sick.

More srsly, sorry to hear about that, man. I hope everything improves rapidly. Being mostly vegetarian would bother me. Can you still eat fish and lean meats? I think I could get used to eating a lot of those. Especially as I am now hearing that there are quite a few pork cuts that are pretty lean.
 
Thanks Jaunty. As far as fish goes, Salmon isn't bad - but Tuna is. Most shellfish isn't good for me either, so I'm just taking that stuff in moderation. I love seafood more than beer, so really tough to give that up 100%. My basic strategy is no meat until dinner, and then chicken is my go-to protein. If we go get sushi once in a while I think it's ok.

Hurt my back on the last rep of deadlift. Sucked. I just got out of the groove, evidently wasn't staying tight enough. Pissed. Hope its not too bad. Was planning on jiu-jitsu tonight, will probably see the chiropractor instead. fuck.

Damn man! Hopefully the chiro will work some magic for you. I've never seen one before. How have they worked for you in the past?

Yep, the guy is a friend of mine. He's got all the cool equipment, plus I can get massages, which are great.
