Went to the beach this am & played 2 hours of beach volleyball doubles. Good little workout before the drinking begins.

In this instagram society we live in its all about the branding. I always throw a hashtag to my gear and in turn the companies end up following me. Profit is sure to follow.

My sponsors from days gone by are mostly folded or merged into other companies. So im out working my mojo for free shit or at least instagram celeb status.

Instagram is fun - I've had a few photos get picked up by hotels in Hawaii & stuff. Made me proud to be temporarily insta-famous.

Drank way too much on St. Paddy's Day. Had a good time watching some live bands at a local Irish bar. I wore my kilt, which always attracts attention. Here are some girls in kilts who wanted a pic:

Biked to & from the beach volleyball spot (4.5 miles each way) & played 3 hours of beach volleyball with friends. Great day!

1.5 Hours Jiujitsu

Huge class last night, probably 30+ people. Worked on single legs, then a couple of basic pressure-style half guard passes. Specific training from half-guard, then 30 minutes of sparring. I got pretty winded - definitely felt like a Monday. Knee didn't bother me at Jiujitsu, which is great. But my elbow is pretty painful still. I have a massive bruise on the elbow & lower arm. Kept having to change positions any time I posted on that elbow.

Just cut the elbow off. Its another one of those things we have extra of like livers and shit.

Which reminds me of the term "coyote ugly" and double coyote ugly.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Sore from lifting yesterday and had a long, stressful day at work, so jiujitsu was tough, but I'm glad I went. We worked pulling guard, then worked a few chokes & an armbar when you pull the lapel over the arm. I like to work closed guard with the lapel pulled over the shoulder some to control posture, so I think I'll start playing with it over the arm as well. In sparring I was able to hit a nice sweep that I've been working on from half guard several times against different opponents, so that was cool.

Quick workout today, but I haven't done any squat volume in a while, so I'll still be sore. Cool thing today was my knees felt great & squats felt fairly smooth & easy, I'm sure I could've gone heavier, but I want to work back up slowly & avoid injury if at all possible.

4.5 mile bike to the beach + almost 4 hours of beach volleyball. Fun in the sun!

Yeah not so much....

Super busy last week at work. Dealing with some customer issues & just had no time for the gym, only time for martinis. I did bike to the beach on Saturday for a couple of hours of volleyball. Hopefully this week is a little lighter.

1.5 Hours BJJ

Finally made it to jiujitsu tonight! Worked on ouchi gari & grip fighting. then worked some basic half guard passes. For free sparring I rolled twice with one of our brown belts & then once with a young super athletic purple belt who is just an animal lol. Sigh. Made me feel pretty old. But I'm glad I went. On a positive note, I did a better job finding single-legs in scrambles, which is something I've been working on.

1 Hour BJJ

Work has been crazy lately. Just hasn't slowed down at all. HAd outages at 2 different customers that had me working all weekend. During the week I've been starting my days at 5am & working into the evening. Worked until about 8:30 last night. At any rate, hopefully now we have some of this under control & I was able to sneak away to BJJ this morning. Really glad I went. We worked on the basic spinning arm bar from knee on belly & they did lots of sparring. Felt great.

Hitting the basics is how you get better. Everybody wants to gogo and no body wants to do pin progressions.

So I was in Hawaii for the last 10 days. Spent 4 days on Maui on vacation, then worked the next 5 or so in Honolulu.

Drive the Road to Hana in Maui...pics don't do it justice. This is a black sand beach near Hana, Waianapanapa Beach:
