Biked to & from the gym. Lots of leg volume today considering I haven't done squats in months...Gonna be sore, but I had to get it in, next week is super busy. Did some curls to try to get the blood flowing - arms have been ridiculously sore the past few days. Going to be a challenge to try to eat healthy during my travel this week, gonna be lots of time driving & then flying to dallas, lunch with clients, etc.... Jiujitsu tomorrow.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Good session tonight. I was super sore, stressful day at work (we're still reorganizing) but I went anyway. Didn't feel great during class & wanted to leave before the sparring, but I stayed. Glad I did. Some of the bottom side control stuff I've been working is finally paying off. I was able to get out from under a big blue belt & a really strong purple today. Small improvements... Good stuff & I was happy when I left. Half of the battle is just showing up.

Been a little sick so haven't gone to jiujitsu the last 2 days. But I figured it was ok to go the gym, I don't care if I get those guys sick lol.

The people at the gym are already sick from being jelly of your gainz

Good to see you again, Calvus. Good luck on your journey to brown belt status.

Thanks guys!

BW: 210.5

Biked to the beach for 2 hours of beach volleyball. Hauled ass on the way home because it was getting ready to rain. 4.6 miles in 17:30, with a top speed of 27.8mph. Not bad! I'm really liking the biking + volleyball as a cross-training workout for BJJ.

I think forget the importance of what other sports offer us when we focus just on one or two things. The different movement patterns and simolee mental change to the gribg pay off

Yep I agree! Here's some cross-training I did this past week in Hawaii:

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Back to the gym today - made it to the beginner's class tonight, worked on mount escapes, added a wrinkle where we had to defend punches & escape. Cool stuff. 30 minutes of sparring after class - neck has been super stiff lately, hopefully better tomorrow. Little winded since I haven't done anything but eat for the past week, but felt good after class.

My neck has been super stiff all week, so no lifting, no BJJ. Sucks. Feeling a little better yesterday & today, just trying to take it easy. Might test it with volleyball on Saturday. I've got a killer hotel room on the beach for Valentine's weekend, so looking forward to that. Hopefully back in the gym on Monday.

Pineapple drinks will make you tasty for the womenz to swallow. And the rum makes all of them good looking

2.5 Hours of beach volleyball. Neck felt fine...

BJJ - 1 Hour

Short warm-up, then sparring with short breaks. I think we did 4x6 minute rounds & then 3x5 minute rounds. I was pretty winded since I've only done jiujitsu once this month so far. Being tired sucks - hopefully l I can get in there again tomorrow.

BJJ - 2 Hours

Long day at work, then went to the 7:00 Advanced Class. The 1st hour was great, we worked with a partner on specific training from closed guard, half guard & open guard, with "active rest" between those sessions. The active rest was drill 2 minutes Opening the guard, passing half guard & then passing open guard. This was really a great class.

After that, it was 1 hour of sparring, 6 minute rounds. I moved much better during sparring, made some nice adjustments in transitions. Really felt good when the hour was done.

Good stuff, Calvus. Gawd, I wanna play Jiujitsu again...

By the way, is the Whiteboard still active?

Yeah I guess the whiteboard is still active, although people don't post to it often.

Cool, dude. I'll try to get this ball rolling again after I hit some PRs. I love the spirit of competition, and I'm pretty sure other guys do too.

Btw, I just found out Gold's Gym in Huntington Beach folded some time ago. Where do you train now?
