Rumored MVP vs Holland leaked

I don't think we'll ever get the Thompson/Page crossover fight many fans have always wanted, but at least this gives us an opportunity to see how each dude performs against a common opponent. MVP's level of competition has been kinda "meh" relative to his record at a glance, but he is fun to watch... when an opponent plays into his style. Parts of his ground game are considerably better than Wonderboy's. I could see him getting clipped or lulled into inactivity by someone like Holland, but at the same time I have also long suspected that Kevin struggles against karate stylists. Even before the Wonderboy fight he came out determined to knock out Charlie Ontiveros (one of the most decidedly non-UFC-caliber guys to get signed in a while), ate a bunch of flashy kicks while struggling to find his range, and immediately decided to just wrestle instead. If Holland obliges Page to the same sort of tit-for-tat kickboxing match he did with Wonderboy, I could see him getting out-pointed. But if he makes it unorthodox, mixes in his low kicks & offensive grappling, and really forces Page to respect his power I could see Kevin being the favorite.

I don't think either guy has much of a ceiling at Welterweight, but it has the potential to be fun.

Id much rather see WB vs MVP myself.
Holland could be fun but WB would be a higher level.

I think a lot of people would. I would rather see it on paper, but the thing is:

1.)
Wonderboy and MVP are apparently now close friends as of a few months ago. They started collaborating together on YouTube and whatnot. I think they might have even gotten some training in together, but I'm not sure. When MVP became a free agent, a lot of journalists jumped at the opportunity to ask Wonderboy about the possibility of the UFC bringing him in and the two fighting. I don't remember the exact words, but as I recall Thompson said he considers Michael a friend and that he really wouldn't want to be in that position. Granted, he fought Holland who was apparently also a "friend" and is now at a point where he's exhausted a lot of the goodwill he once had with the UFC... so maybe he would reconsider if Page was game.

2.) It's entirely possible that the fight wouldn't be as exciting as many people are imagining, lol. I am a massive Wonderboy stan, but I have to admit that both guys have frozen up and put on stinkers in the past. Wonderboy's fights against Till & Woodley in the rematch were pretty damn bad. Woodley was content to do what he always did: hang out near the fence with his right hand cocked. Meanwhile, Till & WB lulled each other into a low-output sparring match as both circled around the cage feinting, looking for counters, and not really committing to much. Conversely, MVP has had some stinkers, most notably against Gonzales, Daley (I literally fell asleep while watching this one), and to a lesser extent the Lima rematch. I think with both men having the respect they do for one another (both as friends and for the stylistic danger they pose to one another inside the cage), there is an uncomfortably high chance that we wouldn't get a back-and-forth technical chess match of a striking war that people expect... but rather a staring contest with 25 minutes of feints and potshots.

Do you realize how sick I am of this friend shit sir?
Fuckin guys are fighters, and fighters fight...but now you have half the god damn company becoming "friends" and killing some of the most exciting matchups.

In the near future we will have 2 guys that are willing to fight each other, and the rest will be "friends"...smdh.
I like you, but if we had to fight I would...and then we'd be friends again after that ;)

They were willing to pay top dollar for MVP and gave him a super relevant opponent on his first fight. They better fucking sign Vartanyan and do the same.
Regardless of Vartanyan's skills he has nowhere near the rep MVP has. Despite not being champ level he's had a lot of moments go viral over the years ie the Cyborg KO.

No way Vartanyan would get a ranked opponent in a debut, regardless of talent.

You won't hear any disagreement from me, lol. That's part of why I always admired Usman and Burns for doing what they did. Granted, that was for a title, but still. If you look at Welterweight it's basically the Kill Cliff Mafia right now while Lightweight is loaded with ATT fighters... we're lucky that a lot of them seem fairly willing to scrap if it comes to that (but not all). I've always felt that once you get to the Top 10 of a given division -- much less the Top 5 -- then fighting "friends" is an occupational hazard. Yes, it would be nice and dandy if the UFC does you a solid and allows you to avoid it... but you as a professional fighter fighting for the UFC should have no expectation of such if the matchmakers decide the fight makes sense.

And FYI you wouldn't have much trouble fucking me up right now. My body is in shambles lol. I try to treat one ache or pain and it seems like another pops up.

I need knee surgery...for the second time on the right knee.
Probably gonna need shoulder surgery at some point, but seeing all the trouble @jeff7b9 is having with his shoulder, im not sure I want to lol.

So I guess me and you can just sit back and watch younger people fight for our entertainment sir ;)

Crazy thing is I just turned 30 (which ain't exactly super young, but I'm no crypt-keeper either) and I think a lot of my problems are caused by me trying to be more active with my exercise lately and woefully overestimating my capabilities or just fucking things up... or both.

Best of luck on your potential surgeries, Sherbro.

Dude Vartanyans resume is so insane. He won the ACA GP, they gave Gamrot a real path and pushup quickly after signing him. I understand why they're doing what they're doing with MVP, my point is that I object. A 40 year old who is a clearly very flawed fighter gets big money and immediate push while literal world class elite guys in their prime maybe don't even get signed and forced to take the long road and paycuts just to be in the UFC because they're from the wrong country? Fuck that.

why not bring in Raymond Daniels while he’a fresh like they did with Alex Perreira?
Much better addition to ufc.

Daniels is 43 and hasn't fought in MMA in over 2.5 years lol, there's zero chance the UFC would be interested in him.

Strickland vs Dricus is the biggest new.

But Holland vs MVP would be so much fun. MVP should avoid grapplers at all costs.. he got outgrappled by Paul Daley of all the people lol

Do any of us believe this is a accidental leak ? i get a feeling they want to gauge public interest before actually making the fight.

I mean to host a podcast in a "WAR" room and not think anything will be seen is very silly

He's not 40 lol, I swear MVP gets older every time I see someone post about him. He's 36. I also think he'll do much better in the UFC than people think he will.
