Mike Israetel - sage or egomaniac??

Ibuprofen as dangerous as anabolic steroids?

He is talking about AKIs. I think ibuprofen is the safest. The bad one is the celebrex? It’s probably bad for him because he is most likely taking diuretic and blood pressure med that causes some dmg to kidneys.

His thumbs and fingers are fucking gnarly. He legit has clubbed fingers. He probably has some sort of circulatory issue.

The guy is okay, but people blasting huge amounts of gear are normally almost useless as a source of advice for natties. High volume isolation exercise with full ROM is amazing if you are juicing like crazy, but vastly less effective if you aren’t. Also his humor is dull, and calling yourself doctor so-and-so when your degree is in sport science is true cringe.

That all said, he’s one of the less annoying YouTube guys in fitness, and is reasonably smart.
His attitude really ticks me off, honestly. I hope guys like him, in public gyms, keep their opinions to themselves instead of giving unsolicited advice. His arrogance and lack of charity for those he disagrees with just really ticks me off. Even more so now, realizing that he's SUCH a steroid abuser.

I guess its just because working out is such a personal, special thing to me, when I see guys like him who are going to arrogantly blast the way others work out or train, I can't help but be annoyed. I feel like for guys like him, a little humility and charity would go a long way.

Preach. I honestly didn't know about his steroid use before I started this thread. I said, no way a guy who is an expert on exercise and has a Ph D on the subject would do that kind of stuff... I mean he even has a video blasting the Jack Reacher actor for not being honest about his use of steroids.

This just amplifies my impression that he's a smug prick tenfold.

He's a pretty smart dude and I've liked some of his training videos. But he like many of these other YT BB influencers have taken the click bait trash angle as well. Guess you gotta increase that revenue somehow.. because not being dramatic doesn't always cut it.

Although guys like Sean Nal and Jeff Nippard have mostly stayed away from it.

Nah looks more like gi BJJ fingers. Judo will do that to you to

I have to disagree. My hands are pretty bad from sports. My fingernail bed is not distorted to the point where they start to bow. I have knuckle deformity but it's not uniform.

Mark Twight. he used to do a heap of essays about training etc.

He used to be a mountain climber before he went into training.

Mountain climbers have insane strength to weight ratios. I've seen them do Spider-Man level shit.

I agree with this. I tend to ignore his posts now that he's become pretty cringey.

Ok Mike. John Cena is doing it all wrong.

Besides all that- if someone is disciplined enough with their diet for 6 days a week, when cheat day comes around, they won't even be able to eat 6,000 calories worth of stuff like Mike is suggesting here. I for one, could never eat two full pizzas. Heck, I can't even eat one full pizza.

The 6 days of discipline will get you to a point where your appetite won't be as strong as say, a chronically fat person's is. Cheat day comes, and you may have a few burritos and slices of pizza but you simply cannot stuff your face all day long. The appetite isn't there for it and your body will simply be turned off at the thought of eating all that food.

Ask me how I know....

tbf he is a BB

so I respect him for that

He's also telling people what to do and what not to do with their diet and fitness routines. He's making fun of other people's methods. He has no moral high ground.

his advice is solid and it is good and he is open about what to expect
his personality is grating at times and he panders for the hate clicks
but if you trip him down to his base arguments it's not bad
full ROM
more volume
use proper technique
eat and sleep well
it's not anything earth Shattering but it's what keeps his channel a float
personally I dig his collab workout vids always some interesting exercises to try

reverse skull crushers are an excellent body weight exercise that I wouldn't have seen otherwise

he might not have any moral high ground but I prefer his position to fake natties having people think bro pits will let them look like a mountain if they just take the sponsors supplement and do curls

Haha I'm not trying to argue you with you.. but if in fact his good advice isn't innovative and can be heard elsewhere, then I'd rather go elsewhere due to the fact he otherwise annoys me.

I posted this earlier

He laid out how a 1,000 calorie deficit over 6 days would be cancelled out by consuming 6,000 calories on a cheat day.

I'll use myself as an example- it's not unusual for me to burn north of 3,000 calories a day, but I'll just use that as it is a round easy number to work with.

  • A 1,000 calorie deficit would mean I'd have to consume only 2,000 calories a day -very doable for me
  • Do that for 6 days and I'm at a 6,000 calorie deficit for the week
  • Cheat day comes, I burn my normal 3,000 calories, so I'd have to eat 9,000 calories to erase my gains as Mike is referring to here.
I can't even imagine eating 9,000 calories in one day. A fit person who is disciplined with their diet and generally eats healthy food will have a reduced appetite.

It's all right here

While it’s not possible to shrink your stomach, it is possible to change how your stomach adjusts to hunger and feelings of fullness. Researchers have found that over time, you can become accustomed to feeling fuller with smaller amounts of food.

I agree and disagree. I think it depends on the person and the dispositions they have.

At some point when it's a hard deficit (like -500 calories) I know I get to the point where I have a junk food craving that comes from nowhere and I am able to eat an infinite amount of pizza and processed shit. I can honestly finish 3 or 4 pizza in one sitting, while I never have more than half a pizza usually. It's even a bit scary. And I'm a fairly small guy plus I don't even like processed shit in the first place. My wife hates it when I try a cut because she says I'm going to have that "ogre phase" anyway so why bother.

It's the one factor that make me F up all the cuts I've tried in my life and why I never am able to get below 15% bf. Well I got to 13.8% one time but that's it. Those days I'm a bit of a fatso being at around 18%.

So he might have a point here where for a certain type of people with extreme personalities a whole cheat day is a bad idea.

I personally am more of the idea of two cheat meals a week. That's what I'm trying for my thousandth try at real cut. Wish me luck, caloric deficit is hard lol

I agree that some people may be more prone to go overboard than others, but I am saying he is full of shit because the very basic logic he is using in that clip is flat out wrong

6 days at a 1,000 calorie deficit does not mean eating 6,000 calories on the 7th day completely erases that deficit. That's just wrong.

Oh yeah that's a load of bullshit I agree.

He dramatises everything for the clicks these days it seems

yea he plays the yt game well

for every "here's why you shouldnt do front squats" he's got a good vid

but by including those big names and adding an element of critiwue he gets views

that's just the yt era we live in

like @mixmastermo said there are other people making content in he same field he would prefer to watch them without the drama
I agree but a lot of great channels like elitefts or Brian alsruhe get pretty low views when Mike can a drop a video I think a thumb nail of his weird ass Mars attacks mug laughing at a celebrity and get a million plus

I don't blame him hats just how he stays on top but if I am watching content to learn he is at the bottom of the list of guys I go to

also I am into powerbuilding so bb stuff is already low on my importance list
