Mike Israetel - sage or egomaniac??

Yeah, lots of doctors and surgeons smoke, drink, etc.

What's your point? Your comment is dumb as fuck.
My point is that if you're claiming to be an expert in a field of study, and you don't follow the recommendations of said field of study, then maybe you shouldn't play up your "expertise" every chance you get and/or make it part of your identity.

Not sure how that's dumb as fuck, but I'm glad to explain it further if you still can't grasp this.

What's the current recommended cycle for bodybuilders? And where can I find the studies? Russia? China?
You do realize PEDs work, right?

What does Mike Israetel holding a PhD in sport physiology have to do with him using steroids? He doesn't have a PhD in "making people as healthy as possible and giving them the best advice on living long and healthy lives."

Again, I have no idea what original point you were trying to make. He doesn't have to claim anything. He *is* an expert in sport physiology. Him choosing to use AAS has nothing to do with that.

Physiology is the biological science focussed on how organisms, organ systems, individual organs, cells, and biomolecules carry out their functions in a living system (e.g. the human body).

In the case of exercise, physiology looks at the acute responses and chronic adaptations to a wide-range of physical exercise conditions. A sports physiologist studies these responses in athletes, in response to training and competition, to enhance and refine overall fitness and athletic performance.

Sports physiology looks at how exercise alters the function and structure of the body. A physiologist monitors how well an athlete performs using special tests and technology that are designed to accurately measure their characteristics. This allows the doctor to advise coaches and athletes on their training and competitions to ensure that they are performing at their best level. The specialty is a very broad field, built-up of coaches, fitness trainers, health educators, athletic trainers and exercise physiologists.
Exercise Physiology has evolved from this study of anatomy and physiology, and examines how the body's structures and functions are altered when exposed to acute and chronic bouts of exercise. It is primarily the study of how the body adapts physiologically to the acute or short term stress of exercise, and the chronic or long term stress of physical training. Sports physiology further applies these concepts from exercise physiology specifically to training the athlete and enhancing athlete performance within a specific sport.

His whole identity is he is someone who is supposed to be an expert on helping people be the best they can be. He's also admitted that he's used steroids and regrets the decision due to bursts of rage in the near term, and the health complications he's exposed himself to in the long term.

The video I posted above has all of that information.

yea but dont you see how everything you posted is focused on best performance possible .... not health

the reality of performing in any strength sports is you gotta be doping and doing bodybuilding you gotta be juicing heavy too

the roids help get you to that best possible level.

i dont see it as making him a fraud i see it as him actually being more honest then the long list of "natty" people who we all know arent.

if you want to talk about how its a shame or something that needs to be fixed that now bodybuilding is about becoming so unnatural and huge that you have to be unhealthy to even participate thats a different discussion.

One of the links I posted and quoted literally says health educators fall under that umbrella

From the 3rd article

The body's responses to a single bout of exercise are regulated by the principle of homeostasis. Homeostasis is defined as the ability of the body to maintain a stable internal environment for cells by closely regulating various critical variables such as pH or acid base balance, oxygen tension, blood glucose concentration and body temperature.[6]

The overload, specificity, reversibility and individuality principles influence training adaptations in the body, for health as well as performance

One of the links I posted and quoted literally says health educators fall under that umbrella
it says a broad field that includes health educators
it is quite clear though that he is not in that field but specifically in performance and that is why natty and o people seek him out. because not only is having a doctor important for people juicing but having a doctor who actually understands their needs as an athlete themselves is rare and probably why he is so successful
From the 3rd article
right so he uses his knowledge to help use roids in the healthiest least degenerative manner
so the best performance while maintaining health

Except in several videos he is talking about serious mental and physical side effects. In the video above he talked about why he quit.

Look, I get it, you think steroids are OK in moderate doses or whatever. The very guy this thread is about has made comments where he does not think that's the case. Not sure why you keep arguing this.

I'll also point out you originally posted that the field isn't about health, but when I posted sources where health is mentioned as a part of the field, you changed your tune.

Lets be real, im sharing sources with actual definitions and research topics within the field and youre shooting from the hip.

Here is some more info directly from the horse's mouth

I hope the homie never learns that competitive sports in general are probably not conducive to good health
Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, etc all are doing ok....

Outliers with potential GOAT-status don't make for a good argument. And even with those I bet they have had their fair share of injuries and are probably suffering from overuse in some joints. Are they doing well today because they kept physically fit, had great medical support, are rich af and probably have great genetics? Yeah. But similar circumstances don't keep a boatload of NFL-players from having to retire early due to injuries.
You seem to be quite fond of GSP, do you think fighting is conducive to health?

Jeff is a serious guy
Lol, no he's not. Most of what he puts out is garbage, gibberish, and broscience. He doesn't know how to perform basic lifts like squatting or deadlifting, he doesn't program, and he was caught using fake plates, if I remember correctly. The reason he's popular is because he put out a shit ton of content at a time where there wasn't much available, his channel is much older than most, and also he has a nice six pack and seems like a nice guy. But he's barely a step above Joel Seedman, which isn't saying much.

Do you just wake up in the morning saying "ya know what? Instead of training, I'm going to be a small non-lifting idiot and neg people that are doing better than me"?

The fact that he talks about steroids and attempts to educate viewers in an unbiased manner gives him more credibility as an exercise physiologist who specializes in muscle hypertrophy. Every IFBB pro MUST, without exception, take steroids to perform at their best. So, according to your definition, he's living up to the definition of your sources quite well. He also does his best to advise against steroid use for the average lifter just trying to get healthy and not step on stage.

The entire focus of his channel is to educate viewers on proper technique, exercise programming, and to some extent nutrition to maximize muscle growth, regardless of whether the viewer is enhanced.

His channel is a net positive in the sea of BS that is YouTube fitness.

Do you even lift, bro?

I think Dr. Mike talks a lot of shit and likes to portray this ego maniac character, and he might be, but you can also tell he's super passionate about working out and doing it in a good and safe way. I haven't started watching his stuff until recently, but he gets so into the planning and execution of different moves, and setting up workouts the right way throughout the week, and it all seems like good stuff.

I see the influence of Dr. Mike in the gym. I see people do these laying down cable curls. I think they are pointless and it pisses everyone off during peak hour. It's the same with this single arm pulley row. I see people dragging the bench from the free weight area to the cable section to do them. I guess it's fine to do it when the gym is empty. It's annoying when the gym is packed. You go to the free weight area; it's empty spots and people doing the Dr. Mike curls on the remaining benches.

Bullshit.

Every study I've read shows a positive correlation between exercise and longevity.

I'll be here waiting for you to move the goal posts.

He never has said he's quit using steroids. He said he's taken a step back from bodybuilding proper and is going to move into more physique style where he can work his legs less. Also he's said he is using less steroids.

You throw around sources without having read or watched them beyond your soundbite it seems?

If y'all respond bring this energy please:

Exercising certainly beats not exercising for longevity, but health is an afterthought for most if not all high performance-athletes. Exercising for health looks different from training for a sport and especially from actually playing sports.
