Lets talk fishing

@nhbbear hot damn that's a fishing story! Solid catch.

We don't have a big bass fishing scene up here. Small mouth mostly if people go after them.

Almost six pounds. Greenfield lake Wilmington NC. They have some big ones down there.

Where I live, I have both largemouth and smallmouth. I caught two six lb largemouth in one day and those are my pb. My pb smallie is 3.2 from last fall in the Ohio river.

I wish there was a place to fly fish around where I live. I got all my grandfathers fishing rods and would love to catch something on them.

I tried fly fishing many years ago in the 90s. I was ok at it but it is definitely an art that takes time and dedication. My former pd partner fly fishes for smallmouth here.

We have smallies up here, my best is maybe 1lb. We will probably get luck and catch a few while trolling for Walleye up at Fort Peck on this trip.

I'm no good at but and haven't fly fished in many years. The times I've enjoyed the most was fly fishing in small streams where there wasn't room for casting, too many trees, bushes and the creek was too narrow.

Just choosing a small fly and picking spots to dangle it in the water and let the fly drift down stream a bit. I remember clearly the tiger Lillies and other wild flowers that lined the banks. Pulled some gorgeous rainbow trout, they were not huge and we released them all.

One of the best memories I had with my older brother before he passed.

Good times just relaxing and enjoying nature.

What state? I live in WV currently not far from Pittsburgh and on the Ohio river, there are some 5 pounders but my best is 3.2. There are also largemouth lakes and creeks that have smallmouth in them. A big smallie is 2 lbs out of the creek. My previous pb was from there at 3 lbs flat. Here is a six lb largemouth, a 5.5, and a 3 lb smallie.

I haven’t fished for trout in many years-1998/99. Used to go with my dad before his health prevented him from fishing anymore. But in 1997, I hooked into a 9.6 lb rainbow 26.5 inches on an ultralight rod with 4 lb test. Biggest fight of my life and it was long. I had to run through the water because it was stripping too much drag. Missed the state record by half an inch even though my bass outweighed the other by three pounds. But those are also some awesome memories. Another awesome fishing story with my dad was in 2008 we went to Miami to fish for peacock bass and I hooked into an 8 lb 4 oz beast.

Beautiful fish man and thanks for sharing. Funny this thread comes up today. When my kids were younger and I was freshly divorced and loving the quality time, I got really into picnics (still am) and used to take my kids to the beach and rivers.

I got a cheap surf fishing set up and a rod holder and off we would go and take it to the beach. I'd cast out some bait, put the rod in the holder and go play with my kids. Clip a bell to the top of the rod so you knew if there was a fish on. They got to reel in fish and I got something fun to do while we goofed off. Great memories.

Flash forward to today and my oldest daughter called me from the sporting good store. She is married now with a lovely husband and baby and she was shopping for father's day which is this Sunday. Turns out she wanted to get him a surf fishing set up so they can enjoy picnics just like we used to. That felt really nice.

You are lucky to have a cool pop, mine was a POS.

Sorry to hear about your pops. Mine was a great man. Neurologist and absolutely brilliant. Passed two years ago and I was holding his hand when he went. Actually really fucked me up. I have seen people die and I remember my first murder case and the dude was still kicking and trying to breathe. It didn’t really bother me all that much, and I know losing your father is different than some gangbanger on the street, but it still fucked me up. A nurse was trying to get by me as he was going and I tried to let go just for a second to let her go by and he squeezed my hand really tight. Man, it was two years ago two weeks ago on the 25th.

I was there when my dad died too but I wasn't moved to tears or anything close. My dad moved out one night when I was just a little kid. He was beating the shit out of my mom and I went into their room with a baseball bat and told him to stop. This was mid 70's. I was still a kid, no puberty yet and he was 6'5" and 235 lbs so he could have beat the shit out of me as he had done that plenty in the past.

Within 10 minutes he left the house and never returned ever. Not even for his cloths and personal belongings. He was a first class prick.

Good news is I got to have a loving childhood through my kids eyes. I doted on them and we have always had a strong relationship. I was pleased they want to carryon some traditions we built.

How fucking old are you, Cheese? And that sounds like an Eminem song with the “cheating on my mom and beat her”(Stan)

60. Somewhat like the song except my mom was a POS too. Well, more like kinda crazy and both were toxic. I understood why he was upset but that's no excuse.

Well, sounds like you did right by your own kids. Respect

I don't know but I tried and I have enjoyed the ride. Much of my parenting style is simply doing the opposite of my parents so I doted on my kids. I coached 30 teams in three different sports and overall tried to be present and cheerful.

My oldest went to Berkeley and my youngest is currently in Boston going to law school on full tuition scholarship. My oldest and her family arrive on Sunday for a visit which should be super fun. Can't wait to hang with my grandson who is 6 months old.

I live in Montana. Bass put up fun fights when they get to those sizes.
