15 days till I head out for 10 days of fishing on Fort Peck. Here's a Walleye I pulled trolling last year. Excellent fishing lake, especially Walleye and Pike. Our buddy is coming back from Oregon to join us.IMG_5113.jpg

Another night on the Ohio river. Another lost giant. I caught one and he rubbed my line against a rock. After landing him, I checked the line and it being 30 lb test, I thought it would be ok. A few casts later, I hook into a big smallie. I fought him for a bit and got him to shore and my line snapped as I tried to bring him to the surface to grab him.
Here’s the two pounder I landed.

Different day, same story. Fished the Ohio river and hooked into a decent smallie in the 2.5-3 lb range. Had a great hookset and I was playing him with the drag trying to wear him out got into position to grab him and of course( upon seeing my ugly mug, he took off again so I fought him so more, brought him in and reached down to get him and he drives one last time and gets off. These river fish fight so much harder than creek fish or largemouth-I don’t have many fish use so much drag as these guys do and again, they are big smallmouth but not monsters. I did land a 1.5-2 lb smallie on a crank bait m-which I usually don’t use on the river due to snags (lost the lure a little later. And the bank was crawling with people as well so I didn’t have much of a choice where I fished. The second pic is of the crowded bank. There were two other anglers beside me but every bit of usable space was taken.

What’s with the smiley face. Are you terribly scarred or something?

I've been around the internet long enough to know that anonymous is best. It wouldn't be too hard to find the real me, as unimportant as I am.

Yeah, me neither. And I have had people try to find me. Only two sherdoggers know my true identity and one is a cop and I know his identity as well because I buy shirts off of him.

How many of you do any pier ocean fishing? There’s plenty of close piers and trying to decide if it’s worth taking my kid

Piers are always pretty good for catching at least smaller fish. Sometimes it’s really hot and others it’s nothing. Depends on time and the tide really.

Smart call.

One of my buddies is on here. I didn't know that until he saw me wearing a Sherdog hoodie.

I have in the past, it really depends on all sorts of factors. Like @nhbbear mentioned, you can usually keep kids entertained with small fish directly under the pier around the pilings. I've fished a lot of piers in Florida and small bits of shrimp right under the pier nearly always catches a variety of small fish. But these are small wooden fishing piers, I'm not sure about the bigger cement piers 30' over the water. I've never fished one of those.

I met a fellow poster and I was wearing a cro crop shirt at my mma gym. This was almost 20 years ago before the mma was big. Guy asks me about sherdog and I told him how I had been on there for years and posted in the warroom. He knew I was a cop and he said “you’re nhbbear-I love your posts!” I also post my fishing pics on Reddit under Lt Pickles and a local fisherman recognized me and said he loved my catches and we ended up going fishing together a few times because he wanted me to get him onto some big smallies.

Right on. My buddy is the only person I've ever met who even knew of this place.

I appreciate your posts when I venture to the warroom. I lurk there, but rarely post. Mostly just read to hear people argue their points.

Cops man, I'm glad some people have the nerve to do that job. God bless Sherbro.

Tight lines all around to the anglers here on the Dog.

10 days and my fishing crew will be out wetting lines for a week!

I used to fish the piers on the outer banks in NC when I was in the service. We would use shrimp and squid. Mostly we caught stingray, sand sharks with the occasional flounder. That's about the extent of my saltwater fishing knowledge.

I leave for Hilton head on Friday. I have already scoped out the largemouth bass scene and I will wet my lines a couple days if not every day we are there. I hear gators are a real issue there. Usually, we go to North Carolina and two years ago, I caught a big bass on a top water frog. As I was bringing it in, it got bogged down with weeds and muck snd the line snapped with the bass being stuck on the top of the scum. A big 6 foot gator came in to eat the bass and I jumped in the water to rescue the fish. The gator was pissed.

@nhbbear hot damn that's a fishing story! Solid catch.

We don't have a big bass fishing scene up here. Small mouth mostly if people go after them.

I wish there was a place to fly fish around where I live. I got all my grandfathers fishing rods and would love to catch something on them.
