Lets talk fishing

I run a fishing resort in SE Alaska, so thought I would change up the thread a bit and post some of my recent seafood creations

Here we have Halibut burger made from diced Halibut, eggs, panko, parsley, and secret spices.

Next is Beer battered than dipped in Panko fried Halibut and Ling cod

Next is a BBQ'd 20lb King Salmon, with. Lemon butter dill sauce

And here is a rare White King Salmon I'm trimming up. White Kings a quite rare, but in our spot he have a higher frequency of White King, about 1 in 20. They taste pretty much the same, sometimes can be slightly fattier. High end Restaurants and some fish mongers will market it as Ivory King, and charge you $80 a lb for it, but the actually pay commercial fisherman less for them, if they know it's a white King.

I have had that happen and it’s always disappointing when it’s not a bass.

The trout pix I posted has a “a rover runs through it” story line where I thought it was a cat because it was just too big and heavy to be a trout. Thought I hooked a log and then it took off. I had six pound test and had to play it. The fight lasted several minutes and I had to run up and down stream to land it. Then, when I got it in, I got hooked by the lure and I was trying to get unhooked because it was hurting when the fish moved and then the line broke and I had to scoop it up with my waders in freezing water. It was half an inch from the state record. 26.5 inches and 9 lbs. the state record was 27 inches and 6 lbs.

Just a genetic mutation that doesn't allow them to process carotenoids in the prey they eat, not a separate species. Bad Eagles are too gamey to taste good. They are like Pigeons up here....

Does the fish taste the same as its genetic cousins?

I have had that happen and it’s always disappointing when it’s not a bass.

The trout pix I posted has a “a river runs through it” story line where I thought it was a cat because it was just too big and heavy to be a trout. Thought I hooked a log and then it took off. I had six pound test and had to play it. The fight lasted several minutes and I had to run up and down stream to land it. It wouldn’t fit in the net and when I tried to grab it, the hook went into me as well-right in the thumb. It started freaking out and was thrashing around so I had to pick it up in my waders and hug him until I could get the hook out. It missed the state record by half and inch at 26.5 inches but it weighed over three pounds more than the state record did.

Went out the last two days to two different lakes. Got on the water just before the sun came up. Yesterday was a tough bite but I managed two bass and lost a few. Caught them on a swim jig. Today, I hit a lake that you have to drag your kayak up a giant hill to get to the lake. It’s a bitch and I had to take about 4 breaks to catch my breath and stop my legs from giving out. Today could have been my best day ever on the water as I was using a scum frog with flapping legs and missed about 30 fish. I managed to land two. I would drag the frog on the top layer of cheese mat and pause in open water. Then, as soon as it would get back on the mat, they would strike. The two I caught happened in the open water. Like I said, I would try to get them to hit when I was in open water, but the bass were weary and wanted to take no chances and strike when they thought the frog wasn’t looking.

Thats knarly! What a crazy fight! Was that an all Natty rainbow or a stockie?

Just bought a little 14' fibreglass with a 25 hp yamaha for some lake puttering and fishing! Excited to take the kids out. They've only really know kayaks and canoes to date.

Summer looking good!

It had to have been a brooder trout(stocked) because the trout don’t last in our rivers because the temp gets too warm in the summer. Most trout die off by June. This was in down state WV

Took my kayak out for the third day in a row. Caught a small largemouth on a spinnerbait. Lost a few others including a monster largemouth that bent the hook. I got a hand on it and it was in the 5-6 lb range. Below is the Ned rigged craw that the big bass bit on. This has been the year of lost fish
