Media Jon says it's Alex or nothing

Watching the post fight presser. Jon said he's ready to drop the belt and Tom could have it, not interested in fighting him. Says he wants to fight Alex.

what was he talking about on the mic then? shameless pandering. sounds like the type of guy to fake a crime just to take credit for stopping it

Well it's either fight grappling threat Jon or grappling threat Ankalaev. One fight is much bigger than the other, especially if it's for the LHW title. If Alex loses, he's right back in another title fight because Jon retires.

Yeah, have Alex fight the guy who deserved a shot at the title before Alex even went to LHW (and hasn't lost since) and Jon fight the guy who has a more legit claim to being the real HW champ/best HW, than he does, and restore some integrity to both divisions and the sport. I don't care how big the fight is, it's not big enough to devalue the divisions even more, especially since it's a squash match. No interest in it whatsoever.

There is no universe where Ankalaev would deserve a LHW title shot over Jon Jones. LHW is where like 95% of Jon's career has been, has 15 wins in title fights, and never lost his belt in the cage. If he gives up the HW title I don't see an issue with it. It's still a massive fight even if they don't do it at 205.

as it should be. epic fight that makes sense. just like the stipe fight. lets see it happen. jones vs alex at hw.

tom is an interim champ with no title defense run and we are talking about who the goat will fight next. people need to recognize what they are actually saying when they suggest tom. sure tom could beat jon. I'm sure a lot of young up and coming hws have a chance to ko jon. see? tom vs jon to me is more of a tyson paul sceanrio. young up and comer getting a fight he has not earned so they can continue to dump money into marketing him as their next star.

jon vs stipe made sense because stipe was condiered the hw goat of the ufc and had not retired yet and has aged well.
he beat the hw goat.

why fight an iterim champ with no defenses or some other contender. vacate and fight alex is the only fight that makes sense to me. similar age and size. alex has better accolades than most. hes the lhw champ- the division jon is the goat of . big fight. its not a case of jon going oh well stipe is old i can win this ill do this. and its not a case of jon going well alex has more weak points in his game ill go in that direction. its about their accolades and accomplishments and jon adding that to his resume before he is done. time is very limited when you are 37 and at the top of the game. hes earned his right to choose a path and unlike most who would choose an easy one hes going after gold as always.

you cant argue they are just cherry picks. people want to see jon lose. he represents something to them they dont want to see succeed but he keeps winning. he should have control on his way out the door .

gsp was forced to retire to not be chewed up and spit out by the ufc marketing machine. he came back picked a big legacy fight . won that fight and dipped out before the ufc can turn him into cannon fodder. thats goat shit. thats what we want to see. guys reaching such status and then winning in the end not becoming some stepping stone for the next guy the ufc decides to market. Tom can rach this status one day but he needs to go on a title defense run and then he can start calling for super fights and big fights. thats how it goes.

That still devalues the HW belt again. Vacating breaks whatever lineage it had and what gave it's prestige to begin with. It also devalues Jon's legacy as he'll be remembered as a duck forever and his stint as HW champ will be branded as paper champ status.

And it's still an unappealing squash match. But hey, casuals will eat it up! But who gives a fuck about that?

Poatan better get used to the idea of BAMF pretty quick

It's a fun fight. I'll be pulling for Pereira to be the first person to KO Jon and watch celebration parties everywhere. If he loses, oh well it's a squash match. Let's not act like Alex has 0% chance here. It only takes one shot.

HW lineage has already been devalued it can't get much worse.

It's not a fun fight, it's a squash match. Alex has 1% just about. I don't get excited about those chances, but you're free to get excited about it, bud. There won't be any suspension for me going into the fight though.

It's Gane, Stipe and then Jon or Tom vs nothing. It's clearly a devaluation.

Though you could add Tom's wins as interim, but then it's still cleanly a devaluation

Your dick eating has been noted

Tom can rach this status one day but he needs to go on a title defense run and then he can start calling for super fights and big fights. thats how it goes.
See the key flaw (of many) in your overall schizophrenic logic is that Tom can't rank up title defenses when the champion of his division is ducking him like the plague.

No, seriously, HW has like 5 good fighters. There really isn't anything to look forward too in that division regardless.

Jon isn't fighting Tom. Either we get the LHW Goat vs the current LHW champion or we get nothing. You're right though, I am excited to see Alex get a chance to knock out the GOAT.

Been saying this. Let's go. I'll take off work and buy the ppv.

Except Jon vs Tom, so why take that away?

Jon isn't fighting Tom.

Jon wants more money. We'll see what the UFC will do

Okay. Well, I'll be happy for you if it happens.

Jon manages his career how he sees fit. This whole situation is shameful, but I wouldn't blame the fighter the most, it's part of the UFC business model.

It’s callled negotiating 101. Act like you don’t want something, but then put a high price to it.
