Jon Jones had an overrated legacy.

Delete thread and yellows.

Such a dumbass and repetead thread.

Make another one talking about his PED use TS. That wasn't debated enough too.

It is a bit overrated though. He beat a bunch of washed up LHW's from Pride and a lot of puffed up middleweights. Has some gift decisions on his record and is likely a career PED user.

He made it look scary for sure but when you take all relevant factors into account, he isn't this God his fans make him out to be.

By a "bunch", you mean two. And Shogun was so "washed up" that he was the UFC champion when Jon Jones beat him.

Which puffed up middleweight did he beat, outside of Chael & Belfort? Machida? Machida only went to middleweight after fighting Jon Jones, prior to that he was good enough to be LHW champ. Nobody else on his resumé could make 185 comfortably.

The only gift decision he had was the Dominic Reyes fight, which is also when you could clearly see decline in his abilities. There are no other "gift" decisions, including the Gustafsson fight. That was a clear 3-2 fight for Jon Jones.

Again, sorry to break it to you, but all your heroes in this sport are on some kind of PEDs. Same thing as your heroes in soccer, basketball, football. They're all on some shit. The sooner you can come to that realization and accept it, the better.

Let me know when you start taking the relevant factors into account.

Depending on how he closes out the final stage of his career, there really has never been a better and greater fighter that has ever competed in this sport.

He beat Gus 4-1, very overrated how close it was. Clear win unanimous decision, judges got it all right. Actually I won't even get into the rest of everything.. dreadful thread again.

Jones did catch legends after pride and tail end of prime, but do not confuse that to fighting washed up fighters. He also fought pre-usada where you couldn't tell who was clean and who wasn't. I can't believe people here think you could have more strength and cardio than PED users and become a champion before USADA came. Like people act like Jones was the only champ who was dirty, but turn a blind eye how their favorite fighters were fighting 3-4x a year pre-USADA, but 1-2x after, that is pretty much the whole ufc roster now.

Of course he is overrated. Regardless of what his fans think, Jon himself didn’t believe he was good enough to beat his opponents on his own natural abilities, so he had to juice. That says it all. And now this long lay off points to him being busted again and being suspended.

History will remember Jones as a drug cheat, but those who watched him in his prime know he's the legit GOAT. He's one of the few that got into the UFC at a young age lived up to the hype. In his prime he had the aura of invincibility that GSP and Silva had, and trashed the entire LHW division while making it look easy.

Jbj has the .most impressive record in ufc history actually he never faught a washed up lhw he's had the belt since hes 23 yrs old how does a champ fight washed up guys.. who are earning title shots...

he's beaten them all while they were prime or not far from it..

This just in: according to sherdog every fighter is a can eventually.

Absolutely no one was calling those guys over the hill or old or past their prime before Jon walked thru them like a Navy Seal beating up children.

In fact most people where saying the top of 205 was close to as dangerous as it had ever been.

Lost to Reyes, not in this universe. Maybe in your or some other parallel one.

Weight classes. Not size or height classes. It ain't Jon's fault he could make 205 without issues. I don't like the guy. I don't ever cheer for him, but he's the best. And he did it with them skinny ass legs too.

Skill-wise, he is not impressive (relative to guys like MM, Khabib, GSP.. and his kill list is underwhelming (try listening his top 5 wins without mentioning a MW). He is a master risk mitigator though.

He literally has the best resume and beat the last 4 champions in a row, all who held belts way closer in proximity to anyone who beat “multiple champions”. While he was still basically a skinny kid.

You really think anyone (Khabib, GSP, Spider etc) beat more fighters surging, with great records and more world champs that were still in their prime or damn close?

Bader and Reyes were undefeated prospects.

DC undefeated the first time and 1 loss the second time after successfully defending

Gus had 1 loss

Glover was on a 20 fight win streak

Evans (17-2 just humiliated Phil Davis and was the actual contender who Jon replaced for the title shot),

Shogun (19-4 many thought he won the first Machida fight he was 28 years old coming off the biggest single win of his career and his biggest accomplishment since winning the GP)

Machida (17-2, still young, should have been 18-1 bullshit split decision) were still right there at the time.

Peak TRT Vitor (who had only lost to Spider since returning to the UFC in that form).

Chael was probably peaked out around that time.

Anthony Smith was on his best run.

I think Rampage was probably the guy who was starting to slip the most and Santos was overrated KZ

Even OSP was 12-3 STRIKEFORCE / UFC record entering the Jones fight and he just turned 33 weeks prior. So even OSP was still quite relevant then. He only had lost to guys at the very top at the time.

Jon beat many world champions that were still right there when he faced them. None of them were even old at the time he faced them (mostly 28-32 years old).

People dont like it because hes a prick and a drug cheat but in truth when it comes to level (and duration) of dominance measured against overall quality of opposition hes got the best case of anybody so far for being the GOAT.

People do like to overrate him. <WhatItIs>

Very good fighter though.

it’s always funny to see guys trying to justify that dc is somehow jones equal

DC went 0-3 against Jones, was worse at pretty much every facet of MMA, and did worse against their common opponent.

Despite all of that, somehow some people think they're on the same level.

<Huh2>
