Why is Jon Jones so scared to fight Aspinall?

He’s quite past-prime after fighting for 17 years and has suffered many injuries in the last few years. If he feels like he can’t make it through camp or can’t be competitive with someone, it’s entirely his choice to bow out.

Lol at those saying that Jones has nothing to lose by fighting Aspinall. If you're not biased, you could, indeed, see that Aspinall is younger, bigger with more power than Jones. But Jon's haters won't care about it and will make fun of him altough they would have praised an other fighter losing to a bigger opponent.

It's the same case for all these MMA fans who are making fun of Izzy because he has lost several times to Pereira altough that last was much bigger than him. But peoples don't care about it cause they hate Adesanya.

Honest question? What do you not understand that Jones is lined up to headline the White House card which was probably the plan all along and putting that in danger behind Aspinall would be a bad move for him and the UFC. A bonus question is if he doesn’t have the fucking belt why do you care?

aspinall was a big risk for small reward. Jon pretty much said it in an interview that he didn't feel like tom deserved the opportunity to make a name off of being "the guy who beat jon jones". Jon thought he could continue calling his own shots, but then dana said retire or i'll strip you.

Jon is going to bank on mma math making aspinall a forgettable champion like stipe. we've already tom's stock drop because he was losing to ciryl in round 1 and couldn't put him away as fast as Jones.

A win over Quitter Tom does ZERO for Jones legacy, besides shut up the casuals who root for Tom

Jones is just simply at a point that Tom didn't move the needle for him enough. He views someone like Alex as probably an easier path to victory if he can get that takedown, but at the same time the fight is probably a much larger draw and also much more important fight within Jones mind. There is no doubt Jones holds Alex in higher regard both in and out of the cage than Tom and for whatever reason that weighs heavily in Jones mind on who he wants to fight(ie: Stipe fight).

Personally, I don't know if either fight is easier than the other. Sure, you take Alex down things should go good for Jones. But getting there Alex is a much more dynamic striker that could cause some real problems. He seems to have much better striking and kicking accuracy than Tom that is for sure. Speed is probably on Alex's side also. Tom, he talks about his great well roundness to his game. But I haven't seen any out of this world takedowns/grappling from Tom in the cage. Tom to me is much more a striker than a wrestler in the cage. Love or hate Jones, I think he does just fine against either guy and high probability of winning either fight.

there was nothing in it for him at all. nothing. he is a business man first and foremest.

Cause he's a pussy who morphed into a Twitter warrior

The guy fought lesser opponents like Dominic Reyes and by a lot of you thought Jones lost that fight.

So why is he afraid to fight Aspinall?

Even if he lost the fight against Tom, it wouldn't look so bad. He lost to a very good fighter who's naturally bigger than him.

Weird how Jones perceives things.

He had nothing to lose in fighting Aspinall imo. The loss wouldn't change his legacy. It would gain more respect than anything else that he fought the best HW at the time.

...

It has been said many times...being unwilling or uninterested in fighting someone does not imply they are 'scared' to fight them.

Accepting a fight entails a risk/reward calculation...and the risk/reward associated with facing Tom was apparently not something Jones felt was good enough for him. We can agree/disagree, but ultimately it is Jon who has to decide something is 'worth it'.

There is plenty to lose in ANY fight. This isn't a video game. There are potential consequences every time someone steps into the cage for their health, their career, their future earning potential, their legacy, etc.

And of course the loss would change his legacy. Yes, he would gain some respect for fighting Tom, win or lose...and a loss would not take away from his past accomplishments at all, but it certainly would alter his legacy. You don't think there is *any* difference between retiring undefeated or not?

Its pretty simple. Jon is not that bright, and he let a bunch of internet hype get him shook. His phone actually had him doubting his abilities. Powerful things, these phones.

Is he scared to fight him because you said he is?? I don't see John saying he's scared to fight Tom anywhere..

John doesn't want to fight Tom because he literally just doesn't want to fight a guy with only 6 UFC fights.. hasn't beaten any top guys and is just all hype..

John would rather fight Alex Francis guys who are considered the best with a huge fan base.. and are proven.

He doesn’t take huge risks. He didn’t take the Francis fight for a reason.
Because Francis quit the UFC

Where were they going to fight if Francis quit MMA? In a Ballroom Brawl?

The reality is Jones is seemingly scared of everyone.

I remember he was scared of Lyoto, Rashad, DC, DC2, Gus2 . Im sure Im missing a few.

Look what people say about Gane now after Jones destroyed him. "He was just a white belt"

What would Jones accomplish beating Tom (who just quit against Gane) when they are NO different
they would say Tom sucked, many saying it already,

People were saying Jones was afraid of the new breed of LHW and moved to HW out of fear, and Texiera became LHW champion!

Whenever Jones retires, he was ducking who ever is left on the roster.

He literally said exactly why he doesn’t want to fight him. He doesn’t want to be a champion anymore being chased by rising talent and feels like he’s done enough to only have legacy fights in the twilight of his career. It’s not that he was afraid to fight him, just didn’t care to. Dude had like 15 title fights…

I get it though. It’s looks cowardly from the outside, but I don’t think Jon really cares. Body of work speaks for itself.

People coming up with so many excuses for Jones lol.

He had years to take the fight, asked for insane money, got it all and then still turned it down. So that can only mean he's scared, especially since he immediately came back out for a White House fight. Clearly he isn't concerned about taking more damage, he's hoping it'll be Alex so he can still avoid fighting Tom and get the easier fight.

People keep acting like Pereria will starch Jon, but literally all Jones has to do is take him down and it's over. Jon will submit him or TKO.

Jon made his name off of being older, past their prime people, and he doesn't want to do the same. He's scared.
