Jon Jones had an overrated legacy.

Wrong, Hamill would like a word with you, well not an actual word.
You mean the dude that got elbowed into oblivion? I remember watching that. Hamill didn’t just lose that fight, he got absolutely demolished. Probably one of the worst beatings I’ve ever seen. So bad they actually felt sorry for Hamill & gave him the win.

Jon Jones is in the discussion for best fighter ever. The notion that his legacy is overrated is not one that should be taken seriously.

You want to argue that Rampage/Shogun were past their primes when he fought? Fine, fair enough. But he fought Machina, Rashad, Gustafsson (twice), DC (twice), Vitor, Teixeira, Smith and Santos, all in their primes. He fucked up Thiago Santos's knees so badly that he's been a complete shell of himself ever since.

Not only that, but the majority of his fights were not all that competitive. Outside of the Gustafsson fight & the Reyes fight (which I thought he lost, btw), none of his fights were competitive. They were one-sided.

As for the drug testing... Couldn't give less of a shit. All your favorite fighters are on some type of shit too, they're just better at evading the drug testing. Don't let UFC propaganda fool you.

It gets even worse when it turns out he was roided as fuck all along too.

Everyone in the LHW division was a champion at some point in the top 100.

I semi agree

He should have 3 losses. A loss to Reyes, Santos and Gust then his career would be viewed differently.

jon fought every fighter and didnt duck anyone also gave gus his rematch

For real
  • Fought washed-up LHWs he had a significant size advantage on
  • Debated he lost to the first LHW that was his own size (Gus)
  • Lost to Reyes and arguably even Santos
It is no mystery he is too scared to fight at HW and ran away from the UFC after the Reyes fight. Too scared to fight at HW his whole career when he had the size for it because the Gus fight exposed that he cut weight for the size advantage, would have gotten eaten alive at HW.

The most overrated MMA fighter of all time.
Of course. Without the roids and protection from the UFC he wouldn't even be in consideration for the best LHW ever.

Regardless of how much he is/isn't liked, he has been good for the sport over all. Brought more attention to MMA. There was a buzz around his fights. Was a human wrecking ball in his early days. I don't really care if he fights again since it has been so long, but I'll still watch him if he does come back at HW.

It’s quite the opposite. No one has a fight record like Jones. He destroyed so many former champs. Several in spectacular fashion.

But they were all at end of their careers, there is no denying that. Jon still dominated them in incredible fashion but it's not as good as it could have been. The only fighter with comparable age/number of fights he had to face was Gus, and he kinda lost to the guy.

Ok I agree, his resume aint the greatest, his PED usage is a question mark, and he has a huge advantage sizewise to alot of the LHW's then at the time but he dominated most of them like I've never seen them dominated.
I think he would almost be in the same position if there were more Alex Gustafson's in LHW that matched him for size.

He has good wins, but the thing is he would have probably ran up 6 or 8 losses without the steroids. It's really hard to compare someone who's steroided to the gills vs clean opponents. For instance, if he ever fought DC clean that's a sure loss.

He beat DC the first time and was "clean" though.

For the record, I don't believe any MMA fighter past or present is "clean".

It is a bit overrated though. He beat a bunch of washed up LHW's from Pride and a lot of puffed up middleweights. Has some gift decisions on his record and is likely a career PED user.

He made it look scary for sure but when you take all relevant factors into account, he isn't this God his fans make him out to be.

No one was beating them like jones and he dismantled Rua. The only fighter to make Rua quit in the ring.
