MMA math doesn’t work. But when I imagine JDM vs Volk, I just can’t see how even a fully prepared Volk could make it to the championship rounds, let alone a decision.​

I'm not one for excuses but didn't Islam have staph leading up to that fight? I could be remembering wrong though and that was a different fight.

Pretty sure he did but Dustin blew his leg out in the first or second round as well.

fact is no previous fight of Islam is a true litmus test of how this fight will go and the same goes for JDM's previous fights.

Volk is a poor comparison for that is a man with short legs therefore less to grapple and no NECK thus hard to wrap an arm around his lack of it.

Belal is a poor comparison since his grappling is 1/3rd as refined as Islam. Islam has the most refined technique which uses acute bodily kinesthetics and the act of Judo, something no one seems to mention, to manipulate the body mechanics in the way he does. Belal relies on brute force and his own body weight in the shoots.

I dont think islam's finishing is amazing though as he isnt as efficient as Khabib, who transitions beautifully into what he wants while Islam persists in one grappling hold consistently.

but ppl also dont seem to get Khabib's lack of threat elsewhere is a huge reason why he focuses so much on the submission as Islam is so proficient in striking the moment someone gets up from his grapple, he does not seem to mind at all and seems quite content on the stand-up.

Khabib is half the time screaming his head off in fights at Islam to go for the TD whereas cowboy Islam seems to almost want to test others in the stand-up.

As said by another fellow sherdogger, JDM is a huge underdog on the betting odds, 3.16 JDM (+216), 1.36 Islam (-278). So this is the expected result. I personally am rooting for JDM - Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!?

I just don't see JDM struggling against Volk. Different frame, too much for little Volk.

Regardless of Islam's actual size, the size of WW fighters is something he has not had to contend with, so we don't know how he will do; we've seen him against a mix of FWs and LWs, in a division not nearly as stacked as current WW. It's highly likely he will not maintain at the level he had at LW. .

Islam struggled with Volk who is two weight classes smaller than JDM

I don't see that at all. JDM actually has TDD and I think JDM's boxing is actually underrated. The way he uses his boxing is to not knock you out but more of death by a thousand cuts. He rips to the head and to the body and utilizes his jab more. I don't know who wins but I want to lean JDM right now. JDM has more precise boxing than most MMA fighters and I wonder about Islam's gas tank moving up and carrying that extra weight.

U cant compare JDM to Volk. Volk is a specimen . Very explosive athlete, was a pro rugby player, unlike JDM
