I think it all rests on whether or not Islam is really that much better than Belal.

They Belal/Islam said they didn't want to fight each other, but supposedly Belal said that because he's afraid of fighting Islam. If that's true, then JDM is in for a huge test.

But I also feel like JDM has been getting better with every fight, and he's still under 30, so we could also see an even better version of JDM.

I feel this fight plays out more like Islam winning the first couple rounds, JDM begins to defend the takedowns more regualry and "Keeps pinging the C*#t" winning by TKO late in round 4.

I dont think its a controversial viewpoint at all. If anything i've been surprised at how much people have been talking up JDM as a threat. He really isnt much bigger than Islam, probably isnt stronger than Islam (at least not by enough to offset the disparity in wrestling ability) and is pretty unproven.

He's 8-0 in the UFC and just beat the shit out of Belal with zero fuss. Belal was on a 10 fight win streak and hadn't lost a fight in 6 years. Saying he's unproven is a serious stretch, and I don't think Islam has a materially more impressive strength of schedule.

JDM is improving every time we see him in the cage and Islam was not particularly impressive against Poirier. These guys seem VERY well matched to me.

IMO there is zero chance Islam has the same chin Belal has, who took freaky punishment and left that fight with a mutilated face. If Jack hits Islam with the same shots he's taking him out.

MMA math doesn’t work. But when I imagine JDM vs Volk, I just can’t see how even a fully prepared Volk could make it to the championship rounds, let alone a decision. The same goes for Dustin. I know people say these have been Islam’s worst performances ever, but those fights happened in his most recent run, so they’re actually closer to his current form than his past.

Every fight is different though. All it takes is one bad scramble and a tight choke. Even if it doesn’t finish JDM, it could get in his head. Then maybe the next time there’s a sprawl, instead of powering out, he plays it safe, focuses on position, and ends up losing the rest of the round by getting hold on the ground.

That’s why MMA is the best. You just never know.​

The problem with the "JDM is a mystery" idea is that Bellal vs JDM was actually really close and Islam rolls with Bellal all the time. Also there is no size difference, its a non issue and I hope that is not what JDM is counting on for the "advantage". That being said, JDM is really good and this might be awesome just like the Bellal fight but I wish JDM could of defended against an easier opponent for his first title defense.

That was absolutely not a close fight.

totallly agree that Belal somehow was able to get hit all the time and still was in the game.
don't think this will happen to Islam, same amount of punches and Islam gets KO'd
I believe that Islam will not try his chances here and go immediately for TD's
