  • Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville sounded the alarm bells on Tuesday night over what he described as the Democratic Party turning into an “ideological cult,” specifically singling out would-be presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
  • Saying the party needs to “wake up and make sure that we talk about things that are relevant to people,” the former Clinton adviser grumbled that he is “not very impressed” with the Democratic field and suggested DNC chair Tom Perez should be canned.
  • “It matters who the candidate is, it matters what a party chooses to talk about!” Carville shouted. “I’m 75 years old. Why am I here doing this? Because I am scared to death, that’s why! Let’s get relevant here, people, for sure.”
  • “Do we want to be an ideological cult? Or do we want to have a majoritarian instinct to have the majority party?”

Crabby old man wants to stay relevant, doesn't like his brand of establishment politics going into the dustbin of history.

He's right. If you end up with Trump running against Bernie, there are going to be a lot of very reasonable people who feel like they are going to be left without a candidate they feel entirely comfortable voting for.

It's not about establishment vs anti-establishment, whatever that means. It's about ideas and how they will affect policy, and whether those policies are a good thing. Being different is not automatically a good quality.

I mean, isn't that precisely how many felt 2016?

Not exactly a new phenomenon with America's two party system

Uhh I think better healthcare, policies to address inequality, environmental regulations, more funding for education, and doing something about student loan debt are ideas that lots of people care about.

Bernie will do just fine in the general election.

I think there are always people that fall into the category, but I think having a “democratic socialist“ running against a guy like Donald Trump would likely leave more people scratching their head than ever.

Sure, those are issues that people care about. But do people want their tax money to go towards forgiving everybody else’s college debt?

Should tax money coming from a social worker in South Carolina who is making $30,000 a year go towards paying off the college debt of a lawyer making $150,000 a year?

There are ways to limit college debt in a sensible way. But people need to take responsibility for the investments that they have already made.

I am all for putting more money into education. I’m also for better environmental regulations. But any Democrat would favor of those positions, including Hillary Clinton in 2016.

LMFAO at the cope. Trump is going to win against any of the extreme left crazies running. The left is a cult of hatred run by socialists. No chance they win.

Both the right and the left are absurd caricatures of themselves. Ask a screen writer to come up with more cartoonish versions of either party and you'll get a blank stare.

You forgot to add conservatard or libtard.

Its almost comical how terrified of Bernie Sanders the Democratic party is. Yesterday I saw Chris Matthews absolutely lament the support than Bernie has and compared him to George McGovern. Bernie is definitely not a part of the club.

I think they're just taking measure. Can Bernie win, and will he stay alive, having acknowledged that he's old and could die in office...

Fact is, it doesn't matter. Trump is doing a good job and the left has gone full retard. That's the simple reality. The democrat machine is imploding and it would be a very tough sell to the American people in regards to voting for a guy who is seen by most as an aged socialist.

Obama had tried to warn the party and they didn't listen. The left has gone full retard and it's unlikely they can get it together and back an electable opponent before Trump has them firmly crushed

Bernie isn't talking about things relevant to people? What topics does he think needs to be discussed?

Look at the student loan issue. For people with debt, it would be a windfall. Do you really see the general American public agreeing to pay off over a trillion in debt, many see as the fault of the debtors to begin with? While student loan debtors are praying for the massive windfall handout, Joe Public will see this as a major problem.

What worked 20-30 years ago in Carville's heyday doesn't work now. This is the populist era. We need real left wing populists to counter the fake populists on the right. Dinosaurs like Carville don't get this.
