Izzy will retire as soon as Alex gets close to a Ts

Saki was 34 for his last fight. Alex is 34 now. Let's not pretend like Alex is going to be doing MMA for years and years at this point.

Alex knocking Izzy out in kickboxing doesn't mean he will easily do the same in MMA. Izzy quit kickboxing after that KO and has done nothing but MMA since. He's adapted his style to MMA in a way that Alex hasn't yet.

Ask yourself this: Alex beat Bruno, but he was getting hit pretty well by sloppy shots himself. Can you imagine Izzy getting hit by Bruno? Can you imagine Izzy even being in range for some of those sloppy shots when he's fought far better strikers who could barely touch him?

I've watched Alex in kickboxing for years and I've always been a fan. I'd love to see him KO Izzy, but with the way they've developed up until this current point, I don't really see Alex being able to do much.

I don't play MMA or striking math or however you want to say it. We don't know if Izzy would have got hit by those shots or not. At the end of the day, Alex needs one punch. He has the countering ability to do it.

Oh and Alex can finish or decision any of the brawlers with ok takedowns that are at the top of this division. He'd also ko Till no problem. That is all.

He won’t get close to a title shot though that’s the thing

I hope Colby moves up to 185, he could follow Jan's gameplan and beat Izzy by decision.

LOL, no chance. Colby would get picked apart pretty bad. Colby isn't Jan and doesn't have the advantages Jan had.

Bro

I don't know what Adesanya has to do with Pereira's future Bellator title shot

I gamble on fighting for a living and MMA math is pure money for me.

You are right though, Alex does only need one punch, and yes, he does have the countering ability to do it.

But, uh, what makes you think Izzy is going to be there for those counters like Bruno and other fighters have been? Because he KOd Izzy years ago? Izzy, who has now adapted his style greatly for MMA?

Izzy isn't going to get into a firefight with Alex. Anyone thinking that has no idea about these fighters they're watching.

Alex doesn't have amazing footwork and he's not that fast. What makes you think Izzy isn't just going to make this a boring fight where he hardly engages and wins off leg kicks at range and his speed? I mean, have you seen Izzy actually fight in MMA? Because that gameplan is exactly what he does whenever he's faced with any sort of serious KO threat. Counters aren't going to be there for Alex against someone like Izzy unless Izzy decides to brawl like a moron, which he would never do.

The reality is that this isn't Alex vs Izzy in kickboxing, and it never will be. Go actually watch that 2nd fight. If you think Izzy is going to fight Alex anything like he did in that kickboxing match then you'd have to be pretty ignorant. Also, if you do watch that fight, you'll notice that Izzy was more than holding his own. He was even close to TKOing Alex at one point.

I don't think Izzy is going to be retiring because of Alex Periera, but I wouldn't be surprised if he takes another shot at LHW after a couple more MW title defenses, if he gets them. The timing of that might coincide with Periera becoming a top 10 MW.

Well to me, styles make fights and there's so many variables that its impossible to judge how a fight will do against someone they never fought but I understand some people disagree.

of course I watched the fights and in the 2nd one, izzy landed good shots but the tko thing is an exaggeration. the ref stepped in after alex got cracked and clinched izzy and the ref broke the clinch and gave Alex a count. I've never seen a count like that given in kickboxing. Izzy never knocked him down and never ended a barrage of unanswered strikes but he did land many punches in the 2nd. not so much in the 1st. alex pressured him in the 3rd and we know the rest.

Oh, styles make fights for sure, but you can look at mutual opponents and make informed picks. People like me do this for a living. Way better people than me do it better of course.

The point about the second fight is a fight now between them in MMA isn't going to be similar. Izzy isn't going to be standing so close and engaging simply because he's not going to risk getting clipped with smaller gloves.

So far in MMA, Alex fights the same as he did in Kickboxing, with his chin up, looking to counter, and mostly plodding footwork.

Izzy having taken his striking and footwork in a different direction since Alex KOd him in kickboxing is exactly why you shouldn't expect the same fight. It just isn't going to happen.

Izzy has to make one mistake and he won't just throw leg kicks and run against alex. Alex won't allow that. He pressured Izzy and we saw the results.

I don't expect it to be the same fight. I expect Izzy to duck the fight but if it does happen, I expect Izzy to shoot takedowns. I don't think he's ever done that in the UFC but he has done that in at least 1 mma fight I remember watching.

See, I think you're giving that 2nd Kickboxing fight too much relevance to be honest.

And yeh, we saw what happened when Alex pressured him. But again, it was kickboxing, which changes everything. Izzy was never running from Alex in that fight. He was right in there trading. They both were.

But there's absolutely nothing about the way Izzy has been fighting in MMA to suggest that he's going to fight Alex the same way he fought him in kickboxing. in fact, literally everything suggests the complete opposite and that Izzy will 100% kick and run.

I mean, keep in mind he wasn't willing to risk getting into a dangerous fire fight with Romero, Costa, Vettori, etc. and none of those guys are even half the striker Alex is. If he wasn't willing to take risks against them, he sure as fuck isn't going to take them against Alex, who has already shut his lights off before.

The other thing with Alex is that he really isn't a pressure fighter. He's a counter-striker. He's used to having the height and reach over opponents which makes that style perfect for him. His footwork is completely fine for that style as well, but he's never been amazing as a pressure fighter.

Even the speed of both guys has changed. Alex has slowed a bit and doesn't seem to have the same speed he had when he last fought Izzy. Meanwhile, Izzy looks a lot faster and snappier than he did. I think this is really just a result of the way they've taken their careers: after he KOd Izzy, Alex went on to have a lot of KOs. Power and landed that good, clean strike has obviously been a focus; meanwhile, you can clearly see that Izzy has focused a lot on just hitting fast, scoring a point, and getting away.

Again though, I do hope the UFC give Alex a favorable match up next and then a title shot. The narrative is there for that. I hope Alex can make it a fun fight and get the KO, but nothing I've seen out of the two suggests we'll get anything similar to the last kickboxing fight instead of a boring decision win for Izzy.

Alex was walking him down and took quite a few punches to do it in the 2nd. Alex can pressure Izzy in a way other fighters havent been able to. I never said Izzy ran from him but Izzy is known to leg kick and run in the UFC but he won't be able to do it to Alex.

I think Izzy looks faster because he's taking on mostly flat footed strikers in the UFC. Of course he looks good, he's taking on brawlers that wouldn't survive 1 round with Izzy's kickboxing competition.

Will be an interesting fight if/when it happens. I just like to trigger all the Izzy fans with these outlandish threads, that's all.
