Shavkat is still injured/recovering and there is no timeline for his return yet. And JDM is going to need some time off after last night, I doubt he makes a quick turnaround. My guess is we'll get JDM vs Islam in Oct. And if thats the case, Brady should fight someone in the meantime.

This is pretty much how it goes with anything Islam does, his haters are quite passionate you have to give them that. It’ll be interesting to see how many people jump aboard the Jack bandwagon now. I like JDM don’t get me wrong but he’s not the most known fighter out there and there’s definitely a trend of Islam’s opponents getting quite the boost in popularity.

When could JMD earliest come back after this 5 round fight?

I would say realistically in 4 months, which would mean in September for UFC Guadalajara and I dont see them fighting on a Mexico event! So, then maybe one month later? There we will have UFC321 in AD where we will most probably have DDP vs KC (because DDP is a stud who does not care where he will fight) as main event and I dont think they will add also the WW belt to this one. So, then UFC 322 in November which would mean MSG and that would make a lot of sense.

However, if they really fight in November only, and remember the MSG event is always around the 2nd or 3rd week of November, Islame could defend the LW title earliest in February but Ramadan 2026 starts mid of February. So, this means that only in best case for Islame he could return to this date, however, much more realistically that he returns only after Ramadan + Training camp, which would then mean May 2026....

This would mean 16 months without a fight for the official LW title (no interim bs) and I dont think this is what the UFC or any, and I mean ANY real fan would want, except for the ones who are not MMA fans but rather fans of fighters who share the same religion as them. And even if they fight in AD in October, or still in MSG in November and it works great for Islame, the earliest he would be back would be in February 2026 and it would still mean 13 months without a real LW title fight... waaaaay toooo much!

The fight is still quite interesting stylistically, it's just not a fight that has the same casual appeal, spectacle & potential for trash talk like Makhachev vs Topuria does.

Saying Topuria vs Islam is interesting because of casual appeal trash talk is odd, neither are good trash talkers or interesting personalities really, they’re just both extremely, PROVEN, high level talents who would be fascinating to watch fight

I know I am an old fogey and totally out of touch, but I just loved how it used to be where there was none of this silly double champ so called ''superfight'' nonsense, and all the champions defended their belts against the number 1 contenders time after time after time, just like GSP, Anderson, Mighty Mouse etc etc would, its just so much more interesting to me.

The belts get passed around like confetti these days and no one can get any consistency and there are so much interim champs the last 10 years, for me it just gets really silly and comical. I know I'm old fashioned though and probably living in a bygone era

Sadly Dana is all about money fights and big matchups now. He would rather have Jon Jones fight 43 year old retired Stipe in a farce of a title defense, than see Jones vacate his title to avoid Aspinall.

Very true, its really sad to see. I also believe thats another reason why there is a huge lack of stars in UFC now because no one can really go on that run and get that "aura", they have zero title defenses or 1 title defense and then want this so called superfight double champ stuff, its really silly to me.

If you remember a guy like Anderson he never had an aura at first, people just thought he was a good accurate striker and was dynamic, but he built that aura because he had 16 MW title fights, every time he would beat the number 1 contender his aura would grow and grow, and then no one thought anyone could even touch him and he was like an MMA God. But how can anyone do that these days when they want to leave the division after just winning the belt?.
