The Stipe fight was a legit one for everyone until JJ said he'd retire, which turned the focus to "we need one more to do the playground childish way for JJ to fight more" Sergei. Then it was Tom... And when JJ himself injured, couldn't train for 6 months, ppl acted like JJ was getting younger while Stipe was becoming Joe Biden. So the extent ppl got to dismiss JJ's wins is next level BS. The fact is a champion doesn't need to fight an interim champion. They can retire and in that case, as soon as the bell rings for the Aspinall fight, then he will be undisputed. Point being, if JJ won't fight, whether he vacates now or not makes no difference when Tom himself said he knows their next move, that's all planned out already. I suspect Islam is waiting for the outcome of Belal vs JDM. If Belal loses, I think there's a 99% chance we see Islam move up to 170 and fight JDM for the title.

But if Belal wins, we will see Islam vs Topuria I think. Topuria is the biggest draw by far at 155 in terms of contenders, so there's no reason Dana White wouldn't make Islam vs Topuria. Islam has no say. He can either defend or vacate.

I think Islam is ok with fighting Belal for legacy purposes eg 2 division champ. But Khabib literally just said a couple days ago that Islam cannot fight Belal, that Belal is too close to them, etc. Khabib is not Islam, but Khabib saying that leads me to believe it won’t happen. Khabib has a huge influence on Islam
