Is the heavyweight divison f*cked?

You know I think the more answers we get the worse it is. Gane/Ngannou looked like amateur hour when it hit the ground and sort of exposed that maybe the level of skill isn't that high. Everyone besides Gane or Aspinall is old. Even Aspinall might not be as elite as he was made out to be. Just saying as passionate as people get about the HW division, the truth is that the fat unranked blobs we've seen from time to time might represent just how low the skill level is.

Even Jones might be aged and shitty but only looked good because of how bad it is. The meta is a little different for HW division than others, where a little bit of power and luck gets you a couple KO's in a row to become top 5 like Tuivasa. Ever since USADA came in, if we're being honest HW has been a weird division and cursed. It's difficult to even get 1 fight for the belt per year at this point.

I'm tough on WMMA because it stinks. Men's HW also stinks. The odor coming off the division as a whole is like a dead for a week moose in the summer sun. The division is incredibly bad. Absurdly heinous. It's almost so bad that WMMA might be more entertaining (ok, that's hyperbole). There are a few good guys, but the lack of depth and the curious circumstances that have arisen all contribute to a piss poor division at an all time low, and that's saying something for a division that has always been, IMO, the weakest in MMA. With all that said, its fine, I don't care much about HWs even when times are good.

Aspinall:
- many think he was losing the first 4:30 minutes against Gane, whereas Jones submitted Gane in 2 minutes.
- also controversial eye poke left many unsatisfied and questioning his mental fortitude and lack of warrior spirit.

Gane:
- submitted in 2 minutes by Jones.
- can't keep fingers closed.

Volkov:
- couldn't defend a single takedown by Almeida.
- lost to Aspinall and Gane (controversial) already, so title fight is not expected.

Almeida:
- no urgency to hurt the opponent, loves playing twister and letting the clock run out.
- shit-eating grin showed that he thinks lay n pray is enough to win fights at the top level --- clearly wrong.

Jones:
- 1 more fight and then retirement.

Pereira:
- low chance of beating Jones, or even Aspinall.
- close to retirement, maybe 1-3 mma fights left before he goes to boxing.

Ngannou:
- banned by Dana the red tomato for wanting better pay.
- will likely never compete against a top mma guy ever again, besides cans in PFL.
Problem is they didn't sign Vadim Nemkov

It's UFC 1 level and jon Jones used UFC 1 tactics to win. Ducked under a punch and took the guy down and submitted him in 2 min

Worse. Jones has spent years cosplaying HW champ.

Sign Gable ASAP and let him smash cans on the big stage

Let him develop there instead of these unheard of promotions

After about 10-fights let him dethrone the “champ”

Jones got gifted a title shot after ducking Francis. He then wins vs a guy who had 0 TDD. He proceeds to cosplay HW CHAMP only to duck Tom.

Jon is and has always been a HW who spent his career fighting past prime smaller fighters who aged out while on gear.
Weird

Francis TDD seemed to work against Tom
